Bradenton family charged with fraud for selling bleach advertised as COVID-19 ‘miracle cure’

BRADENTON – A Bradenton family has been indicted and charged by a federal grand jury in Miami for selling industrial bleach as a “miracle” cure for COVID-19.

The grand jury returned the indictment on Friday, charging Bradenton residents Mark Grenon, 62, and each of his three sons – Jonathan Grenon, 34, Jordan Grenon, 26, and Joseph Grenon, 32 – with one count of conspiracy to commit fraud and two counts of criminal contempt. If convicted, the Grenons face up to life imprisonment.

The indictment claims that the Grenons fraudulently marketed and sold “Miracle Mineral Solution” as a “miracle” cure-all for dozens of other serious diseases and disorders. The Grenons received more than $1 million from selling MMS as a treatment for ailments such as COVID-19, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, autism, Parkinson’s disease and other serious medical conditions, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

In August 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning telling consumers not to purchase or use MMS for any reason, explaining that when mixed with citric acid – as instructed on the label – the product became a powerful bleach.

According to the indictment, the four Florida men manufactured, promoted and sold tens of thousands of bottles of MMS, “a chemical solution containing sodium chlorite and water which, when ingested orally, became chlorine dioxide, a powerful bleach typically used for industrial water treatment or bleaching textiles, pulp and paper.”

The defendants also are accused of attempting to avoid government regulation and prosecution by posing as a church that they named “Genesis II Church of Health and Healing” to sell the products.

The indictment also charges the Grenons with criminal contempt for violating a civil court order to stop distributing MMS and for threatening the federal judge presiding over that case. According to the press release, the Grenons threatened to “pick up guns and instigate a Waco” if government officials attempted to enforce the civil court’s order.

Jonathan and Jordan Grenon were arrested last summer on related charges and have been detained since. They are scheduled for arraignment on April 26 in Miami. Mark and Joseph Grenon currently are in Colombia, according to the press release.

During the 2020 arrest, federal prosecutors executed a search warrant on Jonathan Grenon’s home. Officers said they found that the Grenons were manufacturing MMS in a backyard shed and seized chemical drums containing nearly 10,000 pounds of sodium chlorite powder, thousands of bottles of MMS and multiple loaded firearms, according to the press release.

    1. Been trying to get rid of Kratom too…

MSM cured my cancer, twice! But its not the same compound as what they are talking about here.

MMS and MSM are two different compounds.

    1. Exactly what I was thinking! The “fraud” part isn’t that he was trying to sell a “miracle cure” – it’s in the fact that he stated that it could cure something that doesn’t exist so he could make money so technically the GJ is correct this time LOL!
