Democrats Roll Out New Agenda That Promises To ‘Clean Up The Chaos’ In Washington

Daily Caller – by Robert Donachie

House and Senate Democrats have a new 2018 campaign platform they believe can propel their party to gain control of the lower chamber, and it is eerily similar to President Donald Trump’s “drain the swamp” motto.

The proposal is called “A Better Deal for Our Democracy.” It promises voters that if they elect Democrats in November, the party will “clean up the chaos and corruption in Washington.”

One facet of the proposal aims to make federal laws governing lobbying disclosures and foreign agent registration stricter. Another aims at rewriting federal statutes that potentially allowed members of Congress to evade bribery and pay-to-play allegations, like Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, former GOP Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska and others.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Democratic Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Tom Udall of New Mexico and other congressional Democrats will formally roll out the proposal on the House steps Monday afternoon.

Democrats feel the timing of the roll out could not be any better given the number of corruption allegations running through the administration. Some have already fallen, like former Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price.

Trump campaigned in 2016 promising voters he was the one force that could “drain the swamp,” a reference to the entrenched special interests and bureaucratic officials that have made a career out of playing politics in Washington, D.C.
