Georgia Police Shooting: Officer Killed, 2 Deputies Injured

Patch – by Doug Gross

LOCUST GROVE, GA — A police officer was killed and two sheriff’s deputies were injured in a shooting Friday in Henry County, authorities said at a press conference. The alleged shooter, who was being placed under arrest by the officers, also was shot and killed.

The slain police officer has been identified as Chase Maddox, 26. Locust Grove Mayor Robert Price told WSB-TV that Maddox was a five-year veteran of the city’s police department whose wife is expecting their second child any day.

Authorities said two deputies went to the residence at St. Francis Court to serve the warrant around 10:53 a.m. After talking with the individual for about 10 minutes, they realized they would be making an arrest and Maddox was called to the scene to provide backup.

The shooting happened inside the residence. The shooter has been identified but his name has not been released publicly pending notification of his family, said GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles

Snellville Police Chief Roy Whitehead told Patch that one of the sheriff’s deputies who was shot is the father of one of his officers.

“Thankful for all the prayers. He’s made it through surgery,” Whitehead said in an email. “He is improving.”

The other sheriff’s deputy was listed in fair condition Friday afternoon, according to Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer

The shooting happened at 1260 St. Francis Ct. in Locust Grove, which is about 35 miles south of Atlanta along Interstate 75.

Locust Grove Elementary School, which is near the scene of the shooting, was placed on lockdown early Friday afternoon.

  3. “….After talking with the individual for about 10 minutes, they realized they would be making an arrest…..”

If the idiot kept his mouth shut, they probably wouldn’t have been making an arrest.
