Hidalgo County Sheriff may have Killer of US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in Custody – Fast and Furious Update

Texas GOP Vote – by Bob Price

Update:  Cruz-Lozano was arraigned today on charges of threatening Sheriff.  Held on $2million Bond.

As the debate of gun control crescendos across America, there are signs of a potentially major development in the murder case of US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. Yesterday, the Hidalgo County Texas Sheriff’s Department arrested a Mexican national, Gustavo Cruz-Lozano, on charges of making terroristic threats against Sheriff Lupe Treviño on July 25th of last year. My sources said that Cruz-Lozano has told the sheriff’s investigators that he was the shooter in the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

Sources close to the investigation said US Attorney David Leshner, Southern District of California, confirmed agents from the FBI involved with Agent Terry’s murder are in route to South Texas to confirm the details with the suspect prior to releasing any information. When contacted for a response, spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Debra Hartman replied, “I have no information to share with you regarding your inquiry.

The Sheriff’s Department confirmed this afternoon that Cruz-Lozano is being taken to court for arraignment soon and the Sheriff will hold a press conference shortly after all charges are filed.  We will post a copy of that press release as soon as it becomes available.

Border Patrol Agent Brian TerryAgent Terry was killed in December, 2010, when his BORTAC team encountered a gang of Mexican bandits who regularly prey on drug smugglers and illegal immigrants who travel through the Cochise County Arizona region. I have been investigating and writing extensively about this case since the day after Terry was killed. Two of the guns used in this gunfight were later found to be tied to the Operation Fast and Furious scandal that has led to US Attorney General Eric Holder being held in contempt of Congress. The purpose of Fast and Furious was to allow guns to be purchased illegally in the U.S. and then be shipped illegally into Mexico. I believe this operation was conceived to move the President’s anti-gun agenda forward early in his first term but the Brian Terry murder and subsequent scandal derailed that plan until recently.

CentralValley.com reported yesterday that Cruz-Lozano turned himself in to the sheriff’s department on the international bridge after taking a bus from Monterrey to Reynosa Mexico. He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries he received in Mexico.

Sheriff Lupe Trevino

Another Valley news orginization, The Monitor, reported last year that Cruz-Lozano called the sheriff’s office and identified himself as a Mexican police officer. He said that Sheriff Lupe Treviño should not have launched a certain narcotics investigation and that he would kill the Sheriff.

Treviño told The Monitor, “through our investigation we identified him as Gustavo Cruz Lozano and discovered that he has a history of threats against law enforcement.”

Yesterday, in his announcement about Gun Control revisions, President Obama said,“We should get tougher on people who buy guns with the express purpose of turning around and selling them to criminals. And we should severely punish anybody who helps them do this.”  Could he have been referring to Eric Holder with this comment? After all, Holder has put thousands of illegal guns into the hands of criminals and drug cartels through this operation.

If this information is verified, it will be very exciting news to the family of Agent Terry who have waited for over two years for Brian Terry’s killer to be brought to justice. I will bring you comments from the family as soon as they are ready to speak about it.
