Mayor’s Group Sponsors Gun Control Super Bowl Ad

bloombergABC News

A gun control group founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is airing a Super Bowl advertisement calling for background checks.

The 30-second spot by Mayors Against Illegal Guns will air in the Washington area during the game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers.

The ad calls on lawmakers to pass rules requiring background checks on guns. It is narrated by children, with “America the Beautiful” playing in the background.

It includes decades-old footage of National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre saying the gun lobby group approves of the checks. LaPierre recently testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that the NRA no longer supports background checks for all gun sales.

A Bloomsberg spokesman would say only that the ad cost in the six-figure range.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns is a coalition of more than 900 mayors from 48 states.

  1. The fact that they have to put this ad out during the Superbowl with all the country and sheeple watching, means that they are getting desperate for attention and support. Pathetic.

  2. I sent this one in too, but apparently Angel beat me to it. 🙂

“A Bloomsberg spokesman would say only that the ad cost in the six-figure range.”

Gee, what a bargain, considering the going rate for a 30 second spot was 3.8 million.

    1. No shit. I was thinking the same thing. I guess the corporate elite suddenly stopped all of their Superbowl greed because they suddenly felt touched and sympathetic to the mayors and their gun control cause and gave them a discount. Yea, right. Anything for a chance for the elite to score points on the gun control agenda. Who controls the MSM again? Propaganda at its finest.

  3. Even a four legged animal takes more time to grieve than the short amount given to the Sandy Hook children before the exploitation begins. The putrid sounds of “,,,never let a crisis go to waste,,,” spoken by a truly putrid cause.

    1. In this case, it would be “never let a hoax go to waste”.

No need to grieve if no one was actually killed.

      1. And you can’t expect them to grieve if they did the killing, either, but as #1 points out, we still don’t know that anyone was killed there.

  4. A Super Bowl boycott with an empty stadium and blank TV screens would be an effective, unambiguous statement of Americans’ disgust with their government.
While it is too late for 2013, there is the World Series coming up or perhaps some other nationally prominent event where non-participation would be a notable protest.
