One Bad Ass

A couple from Montana were out riding on the range, he with his rifle and she (fortunately) with her camera. Their dogs always followed them, but on this occasion a Mountain Lion decided that he wanted to stalk the dogs (you’ll see the dogs in the background watching). Very, very bad decision.

The hunter got off the mule with his rifle and decided to shoot in the air to scare away the lion, but before he could get off a shot the lion charged in and decided he wanted a piece of those dogs.

With that, the mule took off and decided HE wanted a piece of that lion. That’s when all hell broke loose for the lion.

As the lion approached the dogs, the mule snatched him up by the tail and started whirling him around. Banging its head on the ground on every pass. Then he dropped it, stomped on it and held it to the ground by the throat.

The mule then got down on his knees and bit the thing all over a couple of dozen times to make sure it was dead, then whipped it into the air again, walked back over to the couple (that were stunned in silence) and stood there ready to continue his ride as if nothing had just happened.

Fortunately, even though the hunter didn’t get off a shot, his wife got off these four pictures.

    1. True story! A sheep rancher friend in Wi. bought a load of Texas lambs to finish feeding. A mule got off the semi with the sheep. According to the Texan the mule wouldn’t leave “his” flock. They’re hell on coyotes, too.

      1. Photos can certainly be faked. I’m not saying YOU faked them, but someone else may have done so and fabricated this story.

Where did you find this story and the photos? Do you have a link?

        The reasons I’m skeptical are:

        * Mountain lions are shy and won’t normally attack a big “group” like that.

        * A cougar will normally run from a bunch of barking dogs (even though it can easily kill a dog).

        * I’d expect a mule to be very badly injured if it got into a fight with a mountain lion.

        * The hunter’s wife must have been very calm while this crazy thing was happening to think of taking photos.

I’m not saying any of this is impossible, but I do suspect a hoax.

        1. I am a country person. Many farmers keep a donkey with their cattle or sheep to protect them from coyotes. Country people know this. And a mule is a cross between a donkey and a horse.

  1. As a kid that did some work on a ranch with horses , mules, cows , sheep and goats

I don’t put anything past them
They are not just animals they are a beast
Capable of some real retard strength and faster than lighting reflexes
As a ranch hand you best make friends with the ones you can , and keep a wary eye on the ones you can’t

One time a horse didn’t like where I was standing in his stall
So he picked me up by my shirt collar and moved me to the area he felt was appropriate
And I learned that spot is where I belonged when in his home
He didn’t have to show me twice
