TOMBSTONE – UPDATE: According to a statement released by Border Patrol, Border Patrol agents returned fire when a male driver shot at them after colliding with traffic barriers at the immigration checkpoint located at the intersection of State Route 80 and State Route 82 Wednesday afternoon.

The vehicle was driving northbound on SR 80 at approximately 3:45 p.m. when the incident happened, the statement said. The checkpoint was closed at the time due to “adverse wind conditions.”

The investigation is on-going, according to the statement. The FBI, CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, the Tombstone Marshal’s Office, and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the investigation.

A man has been shot Wednesday afternoon near the Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 80 just north of Tombstone, according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the wounded man has been airlifted from the scene.

A Tombstone woman called the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 3 p.m. and said that her 76-year-old father had left a home and might be heading towards Sierra Vista.

The woman told CCSO that her father had medical issues and that he had guns and alcohol with him, according to authorities.

About 45 minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office received reports of shots fired near the Border Patrol checkpoint near Tombstone.

We have a crew headed to the scene and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

  1. The BP agents must’ve been late heading to Starbucks or else they wouldn’t have been bothered with the “suspect”…

Although this story does beg the question…if the checkpoint was closed, why were there traffic barriers up? Is this implying that you can’t go thru that intersection if the checkpoint is closed?

  2. “The woman told CCSO that her father had medical issues and that he had guns and alcohol with him,…”

Bad mixture, especially combined with whatever Big Pharma poisons were prescribed.

Hardly conducive to taking out the king’s men.
