Police responding to school shooting at Aztec High school

AZTEC, N.M. (KRQE) – The San Juan County Sheriff Department is responding to a shooting at Aztec High School in Aztec, NM.

Officials tell us the shooter is in custody and it is not known how many people have been wounded.

At this time deputies and Lt. Kyle Lincoln from the San Juan County Sheriff Department are clearing the building and actively searching the school.  

The Bloomfield Police Department is asking parents to stay away from the school until further notice. The Aztec Police Department is also asking parents to meet at the Aztec Police Department where they can pick up their children.

Bloomfield and Farmington High Schools are also on preventative lockdown. All students faculty and staff are accounted for.

KRQE is sending a crew and will provide updates as they become available.

    1. Exactly. That these shootings happen before every piece of legislation comes up for votes is no coincidence.

  1. I heard the news a few hours ago it was in a rural area of North West New Mexico so I thought it was relatively not news worthy. Then later I heard it was a high school with NINE HUNDRED STUDENTS! 3 dead no news coverage this time at all. After “going postal” in the 90’s and the “Trench Coat Mafia” in Columbine, Colorado 4-20-99….shooting after shooting after shooting…Naval Yards… Army bases….Universities….schools and more schools up to the Mandalay hotel…Mabel even the media is even burned out. Obviously the public is but racist graffiti in a school bathroom still gets attention as newsworthy.
