Police union slashes number of ‘get out of jail free’ cards issued

New York Post – by Dean Balsamini

The city’s police-officers union is cracking down on the number of “get out of jail free” courtesy cards distributed to cops to give to family and friends.

Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association boss Pat Lynch slashed the maximum number of cards that could be issued to current cops from 30 to 20, and to retirees from 20 to 10, sources told The Post.

The cards are often used to wiggle out of minor trouble such as speeding tickets, the theory being that presenting one suggests you know someone in the NYPD.

The rank and file is livid.

“They are treating active members like s–t, and retired members even worse than s–t,” griped an NYPD cop who retired on disability. “All the cops I spoke to were . . . very disappointed they couldn’t hand them out as Christmas gifts.”

A source said Lynch ordered the cutback to stop the sale of the cards, which were being hawked on eBay last week for as much as $200.

The PBA and the NYPD declined comment.

  1. if they are so pissed that the number of get out of jail cards was reduced, maybe they shouldn’t get ANY .. so much for Rule of Law

Maybe we the people are more pissed?

    Travesty of justice
It also reaffirms the Just -us -system
Take your cards and shove em up your …..

  2. “All the cops I spoke to were . . . very disappointed they couldn’t hand them out as Christmas gifts.”

So police are pissed that that can’t transfer to their friends their own ability to remain above the law, as if that in itself weren’t a crime?

This story makes a mockery of our “justice system”, and proves that cops are an entitled, privileged class. Every last one of them needs to go. End of story.

  3. Pretty soon cops’ll be pissed they can’t steal marijuana or cocaine or ecstasy or crystal meth out of the evidence lockers, sell it to drug dealers or give it to their sons or former street gang mates so they can make a tidy profit and “complain” about that as well…folks, it even happens in my rural neck of the woods! Many years ago, a next-door county Sheriff was even involved, and was put in the slammer (for I don’t know how long)….and then his own deputy was made Sheriff of another county!
