Shock Video: Cop Protects First Amendment

Sheriff defends free speech rights against airport official during opt out campaign
A shocking video has emerged of a police officer who abides by the oath he swore to uphold the constitution by defending the free speech rights of activists who were targeted by airport officials during the opt out and film campaign.

The clip shows activists Ashley Jessica and Jason Bermas handing out flyers warning travelers about the dangers of x-ray body scanners at Albany International Airport in New York.

Almost as soon as the activists begin to hand out the flyers, they are confronted by an aggressive airport official later named as Douglas I. Myers, the airport’s Director of Public Affairs.

Myers orders the activists to leave the top floor and later takes the unprecedented step of closing off the entire level and preventing families from meeting their loved ones. He subsequently claims the activists need a permit and a $1 million dollar insurance liability merely to film inside the airport, despite the fact that the TSA’s own website clearly states that TSA checkpoints can be filmed at any airport.

Myers’ attempts to get the activists in trouble with police are derailed when Sheriff Stan Lenic steps in to handle the situation, pointing out to Myers that they have a right to film under the First Amendment.

“Obviously this is your constitutional right, as far as we’re concerned you’re not breaking any laws,” Lenic tells Bermas.

When Myers asks the Sheriff to detain the activists, Lenic responds, “I can’t do that.”

Myers then asks for Bermas’ identification, to which Sheriff Lenic responds, “He doesn’t have to show you his identification.”

“I need to get it from you,” Myers tells the Sheriff as he winks at him, to which Sheriff Lenic responds “I can’t give you that.”

“Just so you know, he’s not doing anything wrong,” Deputy Lenic forcefully tells Myers, before quoting the New York penal law code.

“If I was to ask for his identification he does not have to give it to me because he’s not doing anything wrong,” adds Lenic.

Myers’ claim that Jessica is blocking the escalator is also dismissed by Lenic. Myers then claims the filming is illegal because it is “commercial” and could appear on the Drudge Report — which is a news aggregator and not a commercial website.

Lenic should obviously be commended for his fine job in upholding constitutional rights. If there’s an award for cop of the year, he should win it hands down. He is a shining example to other police officers who have completely failed to apply the law in similar situations.

What would Fashism be without the voluntary good intended actions of the Myers.

And yes, I like the actions of this cop.

Myers is an old senile asshole who needs to get his head out of ass and stop thinking he’s above the law. The way he talks to the sheriff like he owns him is absolute verbal abuse and he should be arrested based on that. If I were to say what he says, I would be arrested, but when he does it, it’s different. I see how it is. What a Fascist bastard!

And what’s with this “million dollar insurance plan”. So in order to hand out flyers now, we all have to have a million dollars in insurance?

HAHAHAHAAHA!!!!! OMG!!! I can’t believe the BALLS on this guy.

So basically they make that law so that only MSM with their big corporate money and controlled reports can have the right of free speech in the airports. Basically only those who can help make their airport look good and fill their pocketbooks. What a hypocritical bastard. How does this guy get up in the morning and look himself in the mirror?

“I need to see you’re permits.” To the sheriff, “Ask them to see their permits”.

HAHAHAA!!! The balls on this guy, yet again. Telling the sheriff how to do his job and he doesn’t even know the damn law himself. If I did that to the sheriff, I would be arrested for obstruction of justice, for verbal harassment for arguing with an officer of the law and all the while, I would be on the ground handcuffed and tased by three police officers. But this old fart gets away with it and thinks he’s god. Honestly, Myers needs to be strapped in a wheelchair and given electroshock treatment.

“What you’re doing is ignoring everything you are supposed to do.” What the F**K is that suppose to mean? Does he mean we are suppose to get permission by the airport to hand out flyers? Does he mean we are suppose to be like all of the MSM and have a million dollar insurance plan and say that TSA and the airport officials are pleasant people who want nothing but the safest security for people even though they are molesting them? UnFlippingbelievable!!!

“You’re wrong. You’re not with the TSA here. You’re downstairs now.”

The balls on this guy, YET AGAIN!!

“You’re blocking passengers coming and going.”

HAHAHAAHAHA!!!! Now he is just being pathetic and desperate. So now instead of not being able to arrest the two, he resorts to the childish, “You are intruding on the passengers” or “causing a disturbance” when he himself is the one causing a problem over it.

Finally, he resorts to the intimidation tactic by following the girl who is passing out the flyers and explaining it to them, while staring at her like that is suppose to scare her or something.

Yea, good job, you petty thug. I bet your corporate masters would be proud. Sick old bastard!

On a lighter note, if there were more sheriffs like this guy, WE THE PEOPLE would be in better shape and the corporations would all be put in jail.

Obviously that Meyers guy has some dirty business that he is afraid of looseing. Yep NC – it is those scum like Meyers that that is what is wrong with this country.

What I find most disturbing about this video is “The actions taken by this conscientious Sheriff, should be the Norm”. To Protect and To Serve.

    • NC says:

So true, my friend. So true.

Maybe there’s still hope that we won’t have to revert to a 21st Century Civil War to create some semblance of balance to this country. Not sure what kind of “ism” would come out at the other end, but something with “peace” attached; capable of nourishing the masses might be in order. However, something tells me, the various forms of programming, in relation to the effect they’ve had on the Malleable American Mind, have jettisoned us well past the point of no return. The present course seems destined to propel us into oblivion. It may get real ugly, “here and there”.
