Texas cop shot dead in line of duty while serving warrant

Fox News

A police officer in San Marcos, Texas, was shot and killed Monday afternoon when he was serving a warrant, police said.

Officer Ken Copeland, a veteran of the San Marcos Police Department since March 1998, was serving a warrant in the El Camino Real subdivison of the city when he was fatally shot, Police Chief Chase Stapp confirmed during a press conference Monday night.

Copeland — who was wearing a protective vest — and other officers were shot at by the suspect, “much like in an ambush type of situation.”

He was taken to the Central Texas Medical Center immediately and was later pronouced dead at 3:50 p.m. local time, according to a press release from the city of San Marcos.

The shooting happened near Bowie Elementary School, Fox 7 reported.

A suspect is in custody after he surrendered to law enforcement following a shootout. The suspect was shot during the incident and was transported to a hospital in Austin, police said. It’s unclear if the suspect was injured from a self-inflicted wound or if he was injured from police gunfire.

“Ken’s a hero. Everybody here loved him,” Stapp said, noting that Copeland’s photo is hung throughout the police department.

Copeland was shot while working on his day off, the police chief added. “He worked just about every day off to provide for his kids.”

Stapp said that Copeland is the first officer from the San Marcos force to be killed in the line of duty.

Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott tweeted the news, and said: “We pray for the family of the San Marcos police officer killed in the line of duty. We remember the sacrifices our men and women in law enforcement make every day. #BackTheBlue.”

In a separate statement, the governor said, “Today we grieve for the family of the fallen San Marcos police officer, and we vow swift justice for the killer. The men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect and to serve our communities, and we will never forget their sacrifices.”

He added: “Cecilia and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the officer’s family and to the entire San Marcos Police Department.”

Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement that he’s “deeply troubled and saddened” at the officer’s death, and added: “Officers around our state courageously serve and deserve our utmost honor and respect, especially during this time. Please join Angela and me as we pray for the officer’s family, the people of San Marcos, and for our law enforcement officers around the state.”

  1. Its too bad these psychopath pig- Leos can’t understand the chaos they inflict on americans when they kill people and pets in cold blood. I find it very strange that the lodge lizard establishment NEVER mourns the loss of life they inflict upon we the people when they are ” in fear of their life” etc., Force continuum = war on the people by the criminals known as Leo( law enforcer officer). until they stop murdering we the people, I will applaud these killings as justified in a war scenario. good riddance piggie.

  2. ken copeland …truly a “hero”, warrior cop, oath-keeper, protector and servant. r.i.p.

The only thing I could SINCERELY say about this is I pray ALL cops should strive to be like ol’ ken. Covered in dirt and pushing up daisies!!!!

Thanks admin! 🙂 The best part of waking uup…isn’t my coffee right now!

  3. I don’t believe their version of the story
    Gee I wonder why

I think the guy shot an intruder or a trespasser
And the criminal got what he deserved

As for them shooting the guy for defending his home , I think all those cops should be brought up on charges

  4. I have no sympathy for these gestapo thugs. I bet there are hundreds, if not thousands of people celebrating his death. The “laws” in this land are a cruel joke, most (if not all) are designed to do nothing but collect mammon for victim-less “crimes”.

  5. The men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect and to serve our communities, and we will never forget their sacrifices.”

    Re-write;
The men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to violate The Bill of Rights of all our communities, and we will never forget how important their ignorance is so their sacrifices will help us enslave”

  6. My goodness, all this fine public servant was doing was “serving” a warrant. He was probably going to leave a chocolate on the pillow, as well. NO. A warrant is a court order, instructing any and all police in the jurisdiction, to trespass, steal, or kidnap someone or some thing. It’s why they wear flak jackets and use a variety of war surplus equipment. Sorry, but the emperor’s clothes seem to be missing once again.

  7. Never said what the warrant was for, most likely a victimless crime with failure to pay the fines?
    Smooth move dumbass.
Doesn’t one choose one’s line of work, along with the attendant risks? Job hazard when one engages in nefarious deeds.

    1. Even if this particular warrant was for a legitimate crime, the pig had undoubtedly arrested many other people for illegitimate reasons over the course of his career (e.g., busts for victimless “crimes” like drug possession).

The mere fact of one’s affiliation with the cult-like criminal mafia known as the “law enforcement community” makes one share in the guilt of its crimes. Police in America routinely use unnecessary force, lie under oath, plant evidence, obstruct justice, and generally abuse the public trust. Even those who don’t do these things condone them when done by others in their ranks. Yet they view themselves and each other as shining examples of heroic, selfless virtue.

Even if police did their work exclusively “by the book,” it remains the case that any American who is willing to enforce blatantly unjust and unconstitutional laws is an evil mercenary — not to mention a traitor to the Bill of Rights. “Just doing my job” is no excuse. Neither is “I don’t make the laws,” since only extremely wealthy individuals and organizations have any power to influence laws in the US oligarchy.

Most people recognize that US politicians and bureaucrats are scum. What more folks need to understand is that those who sign up to enforce the will of scumbag politicians and bureaucrats are also scum.

  8. “… was later pronouced dead at 3:50 p.m. local time,…”

OUTSTANDING!!! BEST STORY OF THE DAY!!!!!

“Copeland was shot while working on his day off, the police chief added. “He worked just about every day off to provide for his kids.”

    BULLSH#T!!!!!

He worked every day off because he was a power-tripping POS who ENJOYED lording it over the public!

    Karma, b#tch.
