The Philippines’ bombastic President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered a halt to his nation’s 65-year military alliance with the United States. Duterte, who is locked in a bitter war of words with the US, has taken steps to suspend joint military patrols and ordered American troops to leave the country.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services paid $9.3 million in benefits to illegal immigrants in 2013 and 2014, according to an audit from the agency’s inspector general.

Gunfire has been reported at the Champaign campus of the University of Illinois, according to local media. Shots were fired in an alleyway and the shooter has left the area, police say.

Local authorities have confirmed that five people are among the victims of the overnight shooting, according to Champaign City official Twitter account. A US Senate Committee receiving a briefing from United States Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford, the current Chairman of the Joint CHiefs of Staff, asked if the US should impose a “No-Fly ZOne” in Syria, “to prevent barrel bombs from being dropped.”  General Dunford responded “That would require going to war . . . .  with Russia . . . . and Syria.”
