Ferguson Cop Not Indicted in Shooting of Michael Brown

NBC News

A grand jury on Monday chose not to file criminal charges against Darren Wilson, the white police officer who shot and killed unarmed black teenager Michael Brown on a street in Ferguson, Missouri, in August.

The grand jury, which considered evidence for three months, had the option of returning a charge as severe as first-degree murder against Wilson, 28. They also had the option of a lesser charge, or no charge at all.

Robert McCulloch, the St. Louis County prosecutor, announced the decision at a press conference. He said that some statements from witnesses to the Aug. 9 shooting were “completely refuted by the physical evidence.”

“Eyewitness accounts must always be challenged and compared against the physical evidence,” he said.

In a statement, the Brown family said: “We are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequence of his actions.”

Ferguson and neighboring communities were on edge ahead of the announcement. Several hundred people gathered at Ferguson police headquarters, chanting. Businesses boarded up windows, and schools closed early for the following day.

Police beefed up patrols, and Gov. Jay Nixon readied the National Guard. He pledged that law enforcement would focus on protecting lives, property and free speech.

“Our shared hope and expectation is that, regardless of the decision, people on all sides show tolerance, mutual respect and restraint,” he said.

Charlie Dooley, the St. Louis County executive, was more blunt: “I do not want people in this community to think they have to barricade doors and take up arms,” he said. “This is not a time to turn on each other. This is a time to turn to each other.”

The grand jury was composed of six white men, three white women, two black women and one black man, selected at random from St. Louis County, which is about 70 percent white. Ferguson, a city of 21,000 people, is about two-thirds black. It takes nine of 12 votes to indict.

This should be interesting. I thought they might throw Wilson under the bus to placate the mob. Let’s see if all the threats were just bluster or if is really going to go down.

  2. Deb says:

Gee, of course they didn’t indict him. That was the agenda from the very beginning.

Besides, we all know that cops can do no wrong! *sarcasm*

    • Angel-NYC says:

      Agreed. 🙁

    • PJ London says:

It is a contract, “If the police protect the 1% from the “Mob”, then the 1% will protect the police from the “Mob”.
The Police have the guns, and the 1% have the courts and the money.
Works for both formal police and gangs like Blackwater (Iraq and New Orleans).
Which is why there is no such thing as a “good cop”.
Are you mad enough yet, or are you going to wait for them to come for you?
“By the Brezhnev era, after tens of millions had been exterminated in the gulag, many Russians lamented that “submissiveness had softened our brains to such a degree” that resistance was no longer possible. All of this could have been avoided, Solzhenitsyn contended, if resistance had begun “at the moment of arrest itself.”
“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”– Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago

        Excellent comment.

        • PJ London says:

          Thanks

Did anybody see the data that the body was 153 feet from the Police car! 50 yards! Brown was coming towards him?? He had to use a loud-hailer to even hear him at 153 ft.

It explains why there were so many missed shots.
How the ******* can anyone claim “self defence” , “he did not comply” . 153 ft!

If Holder does not fry this guy then it is a free kill zone for police on anyone. (12 years and older)

Brown’s blood in the patrol car, bruising on Wilson’s head , not noticable in the hospital photos, no blood on Wilson.

          Major frame!

  3. Deb says:

Oh, and if I may make a glaring observation…

When Obama made his imagration reform speech, the networks didn’t televise it because of “sweeps week”. They had NO PROBLEM cutting into network television this evening for this planned announcement.

The agenda is so clear. Now let’s see what happens from here.

    • Angel-NYC says:

      Yup
This is going to get ugly.
I’m sad that it will be twisted to a Black vs White thing. It should be Everyone…
They are using tear gas now, as I’m typing.

  4. JSTP (Joe) says:

I have antenna tv and they did not air it, I watched on this site. So what now? I am getting burned out…

    • Angel-NYC says:

Lot’s of tear gas, police car on fire… Address by Obama (BS)… getting Ugly in Ferguson. Looting and more fires are being reported.
Now, protests in LA and NYC also.
MSM is reporting/stressing “Calm”. We’ll see what happens…

  5. Misty says:

Sorry folks I have low ball dish tv. and only get local, RT, Aljazeera’s, Blaze, CCNews and MSMBC. (Go Figure) On Msmbc someone on interview (reporter) just said “because of this decision…. this should start a race war”. Anyone else hear that?

    • Martist says:

Damnit. Damnit. Damnit!!!! No I didn’t but going to look for it. This is NOT cool. I hate when they win battles. But they won’t win this war.

  6. Misty says:

I guess someone decided this would be a good time to torch their building or business, 3 so far. Bet they will get a pretty penny from insurance and good chance the buildings were trash to begin with. It seems like a major ff to me.

  7. # 1 NWO Hatr says:

    Simi Valley…

    Didn’t expect any other verdict.

  8. Brian USN says:

I had the news on live and reporter for CNN said the cops where firing tear gas into a car and set it on fire. It was a cop car they set on fire. Another reporter said the same thing. 3 min later the reporter now reports that rioters set the cops car on fire. There is so much B.S! Here. Now on MSN headline rioters set cop car on fire.

  9. James Bergen says:

Let me think here 1 body on the street. Has bullet holes in it. All bulets match gun cop has in his hand. Cop says yes I shot him. Yes it is my gun. No one see’s a slight problem here? And demands a trial in area? As a jury is the consious of a area. Cop,walks free. Ok if you say so. Do not come back and complain if they will not help you. As you denighed them the right to justice here and a fair trial. You want them to help and be responsable citizens then give them the right they have under law to be so. OH! I forgot the police would not like that.
