Truck drivers threaten to strike, crippling grocery supply chain

The Counter

As the country heads into a third coronavirus wave, and potentially more lockdowns, food companies are ramping up production to avoid the grocery shortages Americans encountered this spring. They can make all the toilet paper in the world—but what if there’s no one to deliver those rolls to stores?

That’s a looming possibility in New York, where more than 100 truck drivers are threatening to strike and shut down supply chains to Whole Foods and Stop & Shop supermarkets in the tri-state area.

The drivers say that their employer, the grocery distributor United Natural Foods, better known as UNFI, hasn’t been giving them basic PPE nor have they disinfected their trucks in months.

The New York Post says it’s not just TP at stake, but rigs full of organic freezer meals, seltzers, and pasta boxes, among other shelf-stable items.

  1. Won’t have to worry about any shit tickets if there ain’t no dam food
    Eh?

These fcks want to push the life envelope as far as possible
    3weeks without food = dead
3 days without water = dead
3 minutes without air = dead

Wonder when 3 seconds of tyranny = dead?
    I can’t wait

    1. These guys are all local drivers, no over the road guys here. Some bullshit union beef. They all go home and see their families every night.

      1. Ahh ok
Shit could still get real like this though

        People need to get ready
I feel for you OTR guys
Like no home base , and not enough room to store 10,000 rounds and 3 months of food in a sleeper bunk

When those guys say F that
Shit gets real right Now !

      2. Mark, I sure do hope you have a ‘go to’ place in each state that you frequently pass through. ND has you covered. 🙂

        1. Im in fargo right now Mary. Dropping a beer load now actually, load tomorrow, don’t know where yet. 🙂

        2. Good point Mary

I’m behind enemy lines here in the big mitten but if you get Rick rolled up here I got yer 6

      3. I’m a regional driver, not OTR but I go out for overnight trips. Haven’t heard anything about this. We are union, and are going through some drama here anyways completely unrelated. The company wants to back out of the union pension and switch us to the 401k. Guys are threatening to strike. I told them I didn’t care either way, I’m 34, I’ll be lucky to have a country or even be alive when I’m ready to retire.
