U.S. Senate Votes to Endorse Continuing Sanctions Against Iran

Business Week -by Timothy R. Homan

The U.S. Senate voted 99-0 to adopt a resolution calling for continued and stronger sanctions against Iran.

The resolution, S. Res. 65, also includes a statement of support for Israel if that nation decides to act against Iran.

The resolution states that the U.S. should support Israel “in accordance with United States law and the constitutional responsibility of Congress to authorize the use of military force” if Israel “is compelled to take military action in legitimate self-defense against Iran’s nuclear weapons program.”

Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez said during floor debate that the resolution would send two messages.

One message, the New Jersey Democrat said, is “Israel, we continue to be your faithful ally.”

The other message, he said, is to Iran. “We cannot allow Iran to bide more time by talking even as the centrifuges keep spinning,” he said. “Iran’s leaders must understand that unless they change their course, their situation will only get worse. Their pursuit of nuclear weapons capabilities will make them less, not more, secure.”

Separately, the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved, by voice vote, a measure that would permit further trade restrictions with Iran.

The actions coincide with a visit to the region by Secretary of State John Kerry.

The House bill is H.R. 850.

  1. Notice the vote 99 to 0 ? That’s the real tragedy for America. Not one Congress person would vote “no” as they would be defunded by AIPAC, their name would be vilified and political career ruined, even though 90% of Americans “do not want to go to war with Iran when Israel decides”.

  2. LOL!!! Congress knows that if it doesn’t vote the way the money changers want them to then the HAARP machine gets cranked up again. Friggin cowards and traitors.

  3. The activities of the AIPAC castrati in the Israeli-occupied Senate of the United States of America have managed to open the gates to hell once more. They must be closely monitored to see to it that they do not drag us into another Israeli-propelled war such as the assault on Iraq. What’s the best way to get them to attend to the wishes of the American people? Town Hall meetings? AIPAC and those unregistered agents of a foreign state embedded in our government get away with this evil manipulation of our government because we let them do it.

  4. Welcome to the United states of israel.
I have said over and over the scum bags in Washington do not give 2 shits about the legal Americans. The occupied state of Palestine gets 8 MILLION dollars a day from the United States. That is our tax money going to these terrorist in israel.
We don’t want to go to war with Iran, enough of our troops have been killed fighting israel’s wars. NO MORE WARS.
If israel wants to go to war with Iran then let them do it. We need to stop being israel’s bitch.
