    1. Yes, be grateful for an intact memory. So many have had theirs tampered with and we are, as a people, left somewhat weakened because of it. Dementia and Alzheimers, off the charts.

I remember the elders in my life, decades back. All were sharp and alert. Big Pharma had not yet had its way with them. Nor did they live with the level of psychopathy we have today.

  1. Today’s broadcast got me thinking that if any Trencher takes one for the team, it would be up to other Trenchers to set the record straight and guard the truth. For in the news, initially, we will go down as the vilest of the vile, and at that time deep courage will need be summoned, for slander will fly and lies will be embellished and sanctified. Even family members will doubt us. But there will be those who know the hero’s true story and who will live unafraid to tell it. For each will have a turn in the fight and who would not want his own name protected? This is the “we” I call to mind.

“It is always himself that the coward abandons first. After this all other betrayals come easily.”
    — Cormac McCarthy

“All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood.”
    — George Patton
