WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 (UPI) — California’s Attorney General Kamala Harris is set to announce her formal bid for retiring Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer‘s seat in 2016.
Harris, 50, is the two-time attorney general for the state of California and was the district attorney for San Francisco.
“She’s not testing the waters. She’s charting the course. She’s in with both feet,” said one of her advisers.
The news comes after Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom said he would not run for the seat.
“It’s always better to be candid than coy. While I am humbled by the widespread encouragement of so many and hold in the highest esteem those who serve us in federal office, I know that my head and my heart, my young family’s future, and our unfinished work all remain firmly in the state of California — not Washington, D.C.,” Newsom said in a statement.
Newsom is expected to run for governor of California in 2018 when Gov. Jerry Brown reaches his term limit.
In addition to Newsom and Harris, potential candidates for the seat including former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villiaraogosa who said he is “seriously considering” running and Tom Steyer, a billionaire environmentalist and top Democratic donor.
Boxer announced her retirement at the beginning of the 114th Congress. She has held the seat since 1992 along with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. Feinstein said during the November elections she has not yet decided when she will retire. She will not be up for re-election until 2018.
Whats the saying?? From bad to worse??
OH NO!
I guess I don’t need to say I’m not voting because she’ll be put into place by Obo’s folks anyway. 🙁
. . .
This one I want to hang personally.
Can I help?
. . .
With the waterboarding. 😉
I think I can handle that! 😉
. . .
STRICTLY within the so-called ‘government’s’ guidelines, of course.
Nothing ‘illegal’, mind you.
