Michigan Auto Shop Owner Faces Backlash After Declaring He Won’t Serve Gays

CBS Detroit

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WWJ) – A west Michigan business owner claims he’s been the target of death threats after he announced he won’t serve gays.

Brian Klawiter, who owns Dieseltec Automotive Repair in Grandville, posted a message on his business’ Facebook page saying that he is a Christian, and that his company does not welcome “immoral behavior” — including homosexuality.

“Our rights as conservative Americans are being squashed more and more everyday. Apparently if you are white (or close to it), you have a job, go to church, and own a gun… That translates into racists, privileged, bigot, conspiracy theorist.

“…I would not hesitate to refuse service to an openly gay person or persons. Homosexuality is wrong, period. If you want to argue this fact with me then I will put your vehicle together with all bolts and no nuts and you can see how that works,” the post reads, in part. [Read the compete message here].

The post went viral and now has hundreds of comments, mostly from people calling him names and accusing him of bigotry; although a handful of supportive commenters commend him on his stance.

Speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950’s Zahra Huber, Klawiter would not agree to an interview, but did confirm that he and his family have received death threats, with some saying they’d burn down his shop.  He also said there have been people protesting outside his business.

In a new Facebook message posted Thursday morning, Klawiter said he doesn’t mind people expressing opposing views — but the threats are unacceptable.

“Listen up folks, If you have an opposing view to mine that IS OK, what is NOT OK is threats to kill me, my family, and friends; threats to burn down my shop and my home. I will stand firm on my views and will not back down, however, because of the ridiculous backlash I am requesting any supporters of ours that would be willing to stand with us to help secure my home and business. (There also seems to be a TON of confusion about one of my comments, the bolt and nut thing was a reference to physiology, bolt penis and nut vagina. I DID NOT threaten to purposely put a vehicle together wrong to harm someone,” the post reads.

A Grandville police sergeant said they haven’t received any calls regarding the alleged threats, but they are monitoring the situation.

She said the department is deploying extra officer patrols in the area surrounding the business, to “make sure nothing gets out of hand,” and to “protect everyone” involved.

  1. yep and he should be allowed to..

its his business , no one else .. you have to stand for something

  2. Maybe he’s trying to make a quick million, with a Glenn Beck “gofundme” donations thingy like Memories Pizza. Let’s see if he gets a million bucks like they did. If he DOESN’T get a million bucks like Memories Pizza, my follow-up question would be: why not? People think gays shouldn’t get pizza, but think their cars should be repaired?

  3. “Our rights as conservative Americans are being squashed more and more everyday. Apparently if you are white (or close to it), you have a job, go to church, and own a gun… That translates into racists, privileged, bigot, conspiracy theorist.”

    Damn how true is that!

  4. It’s getting to be pretty lucrative to have “controversial” opinions…

He might be speaking his mind truly but I wouldn’t be surprised if a kickstarter pops up shortly.

  5. Sure hope this is authentic, cuz the guy sounds like he’s got guts! How disappointing if the money bomb thing happens.

      1. GRRRRRRR! This is unbelievable!!!
People just throw money at someone that says they are anti homo.
How bout we start a fund,” Anti Ism, and see how much funding we get to send to FTT.
People, we got bigger fish to fry.
What’s this guy need money for anyway, lawyer fees, court costs?

      2. I was actually thinking that: what if he’s gay? That would be funny, then when he gets 1 million in donations, “THANKS! I’M GAY! YOU JUST DONATED TO A GAY AUTO REPAIRMAN”. How many times can they make a million off this? It’s going to be interesting to see if this guy makes a million, also. Then I want to be the next guy:

“BIG DAN’S BIG NOT GAY DONUT SHOPPE: GAYS NOT WELCOME – PLACE DONATIONS AT THE DOOR”

If this guy DOESN’T make a million, then like I said above: I want to know why the FIRST one made a million. ?Was that one a scam? Logically, this guy should also make a million. If he doesn’t, I say the first one was a publicity stunt/scam that had a lot of “wealthy donors” (wink wink). If this guy also makes a million, I might say there’s a lot of people out there legitimately donating to this bullshit. BUT THEN….that means: HELLO, “BIG DAN’S BIG NOT GAY DONUT SHOP”!!!!!!!! And a million for ME!!!

btw? This guy says he won’t serve ANY sinners, not just gays, I don’t know if you read the whole article.

That means the only non-sinner who can get his car repaired here is JESUS and his ’00 VW Beetle. That’s ’00 as in year 0000, not 2000.

  6. your car won’t start, too much exhaust back pressure….

diagnosis : there’s a banana in your tail pipe, take it somewhere else

  7. Seems someones promoting one war or another. Wait until all you idiots realize the true reason for closing walmarts around the state for 6 months. Are you then going to deny border jumpers too?

  8. I told ya, these things are scams, this guy’s GOFUNDME was yanked already:

A GoFundMe page set up to support him has been removed.

    http://fox17online.com/2015/04/16/grandville-business-owner-backlash/

Now my question: why did the FIRST one make a million dollars? The Memories Pizza one was connected to Glenn Beck and James O’Keefe. Exactly how much of the million actually went to the Memories Pizza owners? Has anyone done full investigation of that whole Memories Pizza gofundme?

How could the FIRST one make a million and get all that coverage, and the second one flop? The “right guys” weren’t behind the 2nd one, and it was just some schmuck trying to make a million? (which I don’t blame him for, why not? but I guess he didn’t know the “right guys” to pull off the scam)
