Off-duty NYPD cop allegedly shot ‘best friend’ during fight on Long Island

An off-duty NYPD cop is believed to have shot and killed his “best friend” on Long Island, police and family said Wednesday morning.

Nassau County cops responded just after 8 p.m. Tuesday to a shooting that occurred in front of a home on Langdon Road in Farmingdale, authorities said.

Upon arrival, cops found a 25-year-old man — identified by his stepmother only as Chris — who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

The NYPD confirmed that a male officer is believed to be the shooter.

The cop was out drinking with friends when they began fighting among themselves in the street, the sources said. One of them was choking another when the officer allegedly shot the choker in the head, according to the sources.

A high-ranking police source identified the officer as Errick Allen, a rookie who recently began working in Queens’ 109th Precinct.

He had not been accused of any crime as of Wednesday afternoon.

Chris’ stepmother, who only gave the name Ellen, said her son and Errick grew up together, both attended Farmingdale High School and were “best friends.”

“I don’t understand anything,” Ellen said. “I don’t know. I don’t know why he would have a gun, I don’t know why this cop would have a gun outside of city jurisdiction. It makes no sense to me.”

“The more I read and I hear in the newspaper about the gunshots and the location of the gunshots, it’s horrendous,” she added. “It’s not a self-defense — it’s an execution.”

She addressed reporters through tears as she surveyed the scene, where a pool of blood still remained in the street Wednesday morning.

“Do me a favor, OK, I ask a favor,” she said. “Do your job and find out why.”

Neighbor Mary Fanelli, 62, said she didn’t see the shooting but heard the commotion afterwards.

“I looked out and then I saw…the shooter,” Fanelli said. “He had jeans and a dark sweater on, he had the necklace badge on, he was sitting on the curb talking to the uniformed cops who were surrounding him. There was a champagne-colored SUV in the street and he was standing up near it talking to cops and he was sitting out there for quite a while. The detectives in suits came and talked to him for a while.”

George Lyons, a Verizon HVAC technician, said the shooting happened in the street directly in front of his home while he was at work. His wife called him about what had happened.

“You’ll never see anything like this out here,” Lyons said. “This is very odd.”

Nassau police said the investigation is ongoing.

  1. The decedent should have chosen his “friends” more carefully.

Hanging out with armed psychos on power trips that are fuelled higher by steroids, alcohol and other drugs could be hazardous to your health. Who knew?
