HARLEM, N.Y. – Rev. Al Sharpton said Sunday that he’s received multiple threatening calls since the execution-style killing of two NYPD cops in what the 28-year-old gunman apparently considered vengeance for the police-involved deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

Sharpton, who said he would be turning over the threats he’s received to the FBI, played one of the calls at a press conference he held Sunday at the National Action Network headquarters in Harlem.

“The language is ‘Hey N word, stop killing innocent people, I’m going to get you,” and I have several like this,” he said. “We are now under intense threat from those that are misguided, by those that are trying to blame everyone from civil rights leaders to the mayor rather than deal with an ugly spirit that all of us need to fight.”

Sharpton, who has led multiple marches and protests against police violence since Garner’s death, disavowed any connection to Saturday’s police assassinations and criticized those who are blaming him or the mayor for the violence.

“To blame the mayor and others is not what we need,” he said. “The blame game will only lead to further venom and further division.”

Sharpton, who was joined at Sunday’s press event by both the mother and widow of Eric Garner, condemned the killings and said he and the Garner family were committed to only non-violent protest.

“There’s those of us committed to non-violence and making the system work and those that are committed to anarchy and recklessness that could care less about the families of police or the families of those that have raised questions of police accountability,” he said.

Both Garner’s mother and widow also spoke briefly at the press event regarding Saturday’s police killings in Brooklyn, offering condolences to the families of the slain officers.

“I know what they’re going through to lose a loved one right before the holidays and everything. It’s so sad,” Garner’s widow, Esaw said. “I would ask that everyone that is protesting with us to please protest in a non-violent way. My husband was not a violent man so we don’t want any violence connected to his name.”

Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, said Sunday that she stood “in sorrow” before the crowd gathered.

“These two police officers lost their lives senselessly,” Ms. Carr said. “Our condolence to the families and we stand with the families.”

Sharpton did not take any questions from media after the brief press conference. He will lead a prayer service for slain officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, at 1 p.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church in Harlem.

  1. “Sharpton, who said he would be turning over the threats he’s received to the FBI,…”

    Where they no doubt originated.

This POS needs to be slam-dunked into a cement mixer. And least then he’d serve SOME useful purpose.

  2. Oh NOW he wants non violence?!?!? He has been preaching and organizing nothing but hatred and violence!!! When the shoe is on the other foot though he doesn’t like it. Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakahn and all the rest of them are all nothing but two bit two timing pieces of sh*t that make their living off of race baiting and racial conflict. Two cops were assassinated while sitting in their patrol car eating lunch. Wow! That was real brave of this black piece of sh*t!!!!! I hope these idiots get what’s coming to them.

  3. Tick tock tick tock tick tock. We’re these the same family members that were speaking against shArpton for inserting himself and his agenda into the death of a family member ?? Tune In next week for me BS

  4. As much truth in those threats as NK And that joo garbage movie.
