Right to farm being stripped from Americans: Michigan to criminalize small family farms with chickens, goats, honey bees and more

farmNatural News – by Mike Adams

In the latest stunning assault on Americans’ right to grow their own food, the freedom-crushing state of Michigan has ruled that local governments (cities, towns, counties) can now ban any animal they wish from small residential farms. The move opens the door to the mass criminalization of backyard farms and small, residential farming operations where people might keep a few goats or honey bees for food security.

According to Michigan Public Radio (1), the ruling could ban all chickens, goats, honey bees and other animals from farms which have another residential house less than 250 feet away.

Off The Grid News(2) goes on to report:

Some homesteaders in Michigan could find themselves in a complete regulatory limbo because of the Commission’s action. Blogger, writer and organic farmer Michelle Regalado Deatrick does not know if she’ll be able to keep her livestock, because about half of her 80-acre farm may not be zoned for farm animals.

“We’re building up a mixed production farm, planning to farm during retirement, and we have a permit in hand for a livestock facility,” Deatrick said, “…Now we’re having to reconsider our business plans and may sell the farm and buy a farm in a more rural area with definite [Right To Farm] protection, or move to another state that’s more welcoming and protective of small farm rights.”

Michigan DNR previously ordered small local farmer to shoot his own pigs

Michigan is the same state where the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) ordered one small, local farmer to shoot all his pigs because they were the wrong “race” of pigs. This genocidal demand by the Michigan state government echoes a tyrannical anti-farming agenda at the highest levels of state government.

Michigan is also the state where Julie Bass of Oak Park was threatened with jail time for teaching her children how to grow vegetables in their own home garden. All charges against Julie were later dropped after Natural News and other independent news sources publicly shamed Oak Park bureaucrats into backing down.

Nationwide, people who attempt to grow their own food are routinely threatened with arrest and fines. One woman in Oklahoma suffered the complete destruction of her medicinal herb landscaping by local city officials who raided her home garden while she was away.

The war against small farms is an attack against America

This obscene war against small farms is an attack against America herself. Our heritage, values, and culture are forever interwtined with small local farms.

Attacks against small local farms are also attacks on America’s food security. Local, independent food production provides a buffer against systemic food failures that might occur, for example, after an EMP attack causes a national power grid blackout. Without power, centralized systems of food production, harvesting, transportation and retailing cannot function. But small, local farms can still produce food without electricity. So any attack against local farming is, in essense, an attack on America’s national security.

And no state seems to be more determined to undermine America’s national food security than Michigan, where state leaders appear to be even more insane than the leaders of Illinois.

Natural News urges farmers everywhere to fight back against this insanity and stand up for your divine right to produce your own food on your own property. Any government “authority” that attempts to take this right away from you is no authority at all: it is a tyranny.

With food prices already skyrocketing nationwide, and food security on the brink of systemic failures, only a government run by absolute fools would try to limit local food production. Perhaps when these bureaucrats are all starving one day, they can eat their regulations.

  1. This is just another nail being driven into the coffin that was once our wonderful country, unlike any other in the world…where you could be anything you wanted to be, and succeed.

The American farmer, rancher, worker and tinkerer/inventor had the high honor of being the very best in the world. We fed the world and produced the best quality and affordable consumer and hard goods in the world. Oh, yeah? Yeah. My old Denver Heiser stock saddle made in 1886 is still going strong. Probably good with care for another 100 years.

Apparently, MI has fallen into the Stalinist camp. Growing your own food, working your own land is a fundamental tradition and right. What is at work here is the globalist agenda to concentrate monopoly power in the food industry. It also falls in alignment with Agenda 21 and the Codex Alimentarius, all UN ploys to limit food production, aiming at driving prices sky high and causing widespread starvation and disease to reduce the world’s population. I would defy this clearly illegal encroachment, and emphasize this with a rifle. Perhaps the next Bundy incident may occur in Michigan or somewhere where they are trying to drive out the organic growers, small farmers and small or specialty stockmen.

In light of widespread armed federal agent SWAT team raids and assaults on food producers, growers and stockmen all over the United States, perhaps the farm belt in the Midwest should create or expand their militias, as it is conceivable that they may have to defend their growers and people.

I trust that the American people realize that a mortal enemy is waging war on us in many different domains (See Unrestricted Warfare: http://www.terrorism.com/documents/unrestricted.pdf) including the criminal, information, cultural, economic, commerce, spiritual, terrorist, conventional, asymmetric, and drug/narcotic conflict zones. This is fundamentally strategic warfare using silent weapons to further a quiet war. The ultimate objective in this schema is collapsing American society. You do not need nuclear weapons to do this, but the outcome in this type of warfare as 9/11 showed us is the same! In closing, who is the driving force behind the destruction of the American farmer, far beyond the idiots and the slathering socialists in the UN? Have you noticed what inroads China is making in American food production (http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2013/09/25/countries-like-china-want-foreign-farm-land/; http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-06/smithfield-receives-u-s-regulator-approval-for-shuanghui-deal.html)?

The only thing a tyrant understands is force.

  2. The people need to stand up in these states. If that ever happens here in Louisiana, you can guarantee I will be one they wish had never been born!! Screw them and their communism. I will grow what I want to on my property, period. If you don’t like it, come and tell me, I have quite a few bulletts with their name on it.

    1. For sure Missy.
At this point even listening to the BS laws they come up with is a waste of time. When they show up people just need to ‘dot their eyes’ (give them blackeyes-slang) and use their stun guns on them. When the armored car pulls up because the you have ‘unlawful kale production’ it wont matter if they kill you. This place will suck too much to live in anyways.

  3. James Madison, US fourth president, wrote: “The class of citizens who provide at once their own food and their own raiment, may be viewed as the most truly independent and happy. They are more: they are the best basis of public liberty, and the strongest bulwark of public safety. It follows that the greater the proportion of this class to the whole society, the more free, the more independent, and the more happy must be the society itself.”

Now, why would we want to be “more free, the more independent, and the more happy”?

  4. If I lived in the USA, I would be in jail by now or something similar, F#@K the government. They want to make us all slaves and dependant upon them. BOLLOCKS to them, I am heading for the hills.
