In the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 24, shots rang out at 1OAK night club in Los Angeles. TMZ reports that famed producer Suge Knight was shot twice during the party, and is currently in surgery, according to eyewitnesses and his family.

The site says the co-founder of Death Row Records, 49, was able to walk out of the club on his own, and was then taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

The pre-VMAs party, which was hosted by R&B singer Chris Brown, was filled with celebrities, including Young Jeezy, Lil’ Twist, The Game, E.J. JohnsonDerek HoughMark Ballas, Richard Simmons, and Tyson Beckford.

Around 1:30 a.m. PT, the club began to fill up with more people, and an eyewitness describes the scene as “pretty chaotic and packed.” At 1:35 a.m. PT, two gunshots were fired in a row, and the crowd immediately began to disperse. Security guard quickly rushed to Brown and the rest of his table, and they were soon evacuated.

“People were screaming and yelling and most ran out immediately,” the eyewitness tells Us Weekly. “The floor was covered with glass from everyone dropping their drinks.”

Model Beckford, grabbed the mic a few minutes later, saying, “It wasn’t a gun shot, trust me,” but at 1:50 a.m., police swarmed the club, forcing everyone to exit with their hands in the air.

Hours later Brown tweeted, “It’s disappointing that we as a society can’t have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes. Miss me with the bulls–t!!!”

In 2005, Knight was shot in the leg at Kanye West‘s pre-VMAs party in Miami. He was also in the car with rapper Tupac Shakur when he was fatally shot in 1996. Stay tuned to Us Weekly as this story develops.

  1. I lived in a Hollywood apartment overlooking the clubs and witnessed Suge Knight get the shit kicked out of him by a little bitty hispanic valet once.

  2. If everyone at that party was cut to ribbons, who would miss ’em?

Personally, I despise the entire “celebrity” crowd because they’re usually useless as human beings, spoiled, conceited, and only help to distract Americans from everything happening that’s important.

They’re a big part of the reason that Americans have their heads up their arses, because a life of endless, and mindless entertainment is all most Americans know.

  3. It’s too bad they didn’t have the time to take care of the rest of those so very special people in attendance.

  4. This is news? Why?

Who cares? You reap what you sew is already a given. How are trivial stories such as this allowed to clutter up REAL news?

  5. Chris Brown, piece of shit and legend in his own mind should go back to slappin’ up his bitches and displaying his true colors, green, green and more green.
