I am from Cleveland, OH. When this happen, it touched me very much. I use to want to be on one of those ship, it was a dream but never happened. This was a great tribute to those brave men.
Aha, Millard. From Wisconsin, right? This song seems to be popular with everyone who lives near the lakes. My Dad was a second mate (navigator), and he knew the captain of that ship. I almost followed in his footsteps, but opted to stay on dry land, instead.
I have new lyrics for this tune, too:
“the captain wired in we have water coming in, so this whole goddamn ship will be sinking”
“time to say goodbye, cause we’re all gonna die, because I spent the whole morning drinking”
(it’s an Exxon-Valdez version)
