I often have SurvivalBlog readers forward me alarmist e-mails, warning of “total disarmament” of the civilian populace. While there indeed may be plans or schemesto disarm Americans, I don’t consider these threats credible. Let me explain why: I would conservatively estimate that there are about 316 million firearms in private hands in the United States. Of these, less than 10% are logged in any formal registry. Perhaps another 30% have Form 4473s filed with the FFL dealers where they were first purchased, but that is a fractured mishmash of records with a quite perishable life span. It is notable that we live in a very mobile society, where most families move every three or four years. And in most states, there are no record keeping requirements for secondary sales of firearms. So to call the accumulation of 4473 forms a de facto registration system is laughable.
A Congressional Research Service report provides these details:
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) reported in a national survey that in 1994, 44 million people, approximately 35% of households, owned 192 million firearms, 65 million of which were handguns. Seventy-four percent of those individuals were reported to own more than one firearm. According to the ATF, by the end of 1996 approximately 242 million firearms were available for sale to or were possessed by civilians in the United States. That total includes roughly 72 million handguns (mostly pistols, revolvers, and derringers), 76 million rifles, and 64 million shotguns. By 2000, the number of firearms had increased to approximately 259 million: 92 million handguns, 92 million rifles, and 75 million shotguns. By 2007, the number of firearms had increased to approximately 294 million: 106 million handguns, 105 million rifles, and 83 million shotguns.
In the past, most guns available for sale were produced domestically. In recent years, 1 million to 2 million handguns were manufactured each year, along with 1 million to 1.5 million rifles and fewer than 1 million shotguns. From 2001 through 2007, however, handgun imports nearly doubled, from 711,000 to nearly 1.4 million. By 2009, nearly 2.2 million handguns were imported into the United States. From 2001 through 2007, rifle imports increased from 228,000 to 632,000, and shotgun imports increased from 428,000 to 726,000. By 2009, rifle imports had increased to 864,000, but shotguns had decreased 559,000. By the same year, 2009, the estimated total number of firearms available to civilians in the United States had increased to approximately 310 million: 114 million handguns, 110 million rifles, and 86 million shotguns.
The sheer number of guns that have little or no paper trail would make it virtually impossible to for any Papa Fidel or Chairman Mao Wannabes to implement a national registration scheme. Americans are quite independent by nature and are unlikely to comply with any universal registration edict. Consider the recent experience in Germany, where a new national registry logged in only 5.5 million guns, while 17 million guns remain un-papered in the hands of refuseniks. Now, if this happened in Germany–where the populace is famous for being sticklers to most laws (except on the autobahnen)–can you imagine the result if this were attempted in the United States? To call it massive noncompliance would be putting it mildly.
The bottom line: Be vigilant and vocal with our elected officials about any proposed legislation, but don’t worry too much about the police ever going door to door, looking for unregistered guns. If this were attempted, they wouldn’t get very far. I can predict that if Eric Holder ever wants to turn his fantasies of disarming the American people into reality, then he’ll have to enlist the aid of every sworn law enforcement officer, every soldier, every prison guard, every park ranger, every dog catcher and every meter maid in the country. But I doubt many of those folks will be enthusiastic, in carrying out unconstitutional orders. So then he’d undoubtedly also need the help of a hundred divisions of foreign troops. My advice to Mr. Holder: Order up plenty of body bags. You’ll need them.
Veteran blogger and Appleseed program shooting instructor Bob Owens recently summarized the mathematics of rebellion, quite succinctly: “A nation with just 800,000 law enforcement officers and 3 million active and reserve military personal cannot easily defeat and enslave a free people armed with 300 million firearms, even if large numbers of the police and military didn’t walk away or switch sides to follow their oath to the Constitution instead of any given leader, as many assuredly will.”

They made us register long guns here in Canada. It was a billion dollar clusterf#@k that accomplished nothing. There is no long gun registry now. The government admitted it was more work than their fascist little hearts could handle.
I doubt foriegn troops will be coming her to disarm the USA. The only nation dumb enough to send thier own troops into harms way to disarm another country is the US. And then we take over. They will probably get some things banned, like 30 round mags but that would be inpossible to enforce. This push to “disarm” americans has to be connected to a money trial. Someone needs to be making money off the effort alone, they really don’t care if they do disarm america of not, that’s the ruse. This propganda to ban guns is money driven, I just have figured out where yet.
You don’t have to look too far ….. Colt Remington, Smith & Wesson etc. They’ve had a bumper Christmas! Along with that, the money has been spent on American goods – a win-win for everyone!

Believe it or not, they attempted to collect firearms door to door in the ghettos of the District of Criminals a few years ago. That experiment literally lasted less than one half day. It would be great if they did try taking our guns away, because the first American Revolution started that way!
I think a primary objective of the government is to start a “war on guns”. Their war on drugs is losing support around the world and the US. They need to justify their existence somehow. They need to turn every citizen into a potential criminal somehow, so they can feed the out of control prison system. A war on guns would do the trick.

I am commenting on this site because an issue many have not brought up but have investigated is at hand here. Maybe. What if the enemy is not human and the purpose is really to get us more armed. Perhaps that is why the Government bought so many hundreds of millions of rounds of ammunition recently. Because we really do arm up more when these false flag events occur. Sure they pay the crisis actor but of course they are not going to tell them the truth either, just give them a check. In some ways it is the only factor that makes any sense. Alien war or Avatar war. Nanobot created bodies and alien human mixes against us real humans. In this possible truth the governments are getting ready to turn the tables on the alien slavers and we need to help. Any ideas people on this? Please research before commenting this technology is real and has been for at least 40 years on Earth.
Well I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think there is a simpler truth. This is a repeat of the Bolshevik genocide verbatim, otherwise why would they be talking about confiscating our guns? They would be freeing up the 2nd Amendment, wouldn’t they?

Indeed, Chris, a war on guns would do the trick. Instead of picking on a quiet, peaceful group of people armed only with bongs and Bics who only want to enjoy their personal vice in privacy, “they” would be facing an army of determined–and well armed–patriots who simply wouldn’t put up with their stuff.
Things could get very interesting, very swiftly. And perhaps our children and grandchildren could enjoy their lives without constantly being harassed by an elitist, controlling group of people completely out of touch with reality, only wishing for more power and more money.
I really believe that the very questionable events at Sandy Hook could be that “enlightening” that so many people predicted in 2012. This could be the point at which the American people–and the people of the world–really see the media and political machinations that have been used to drug us into complacence.
Oh, what exciting times we live in. Are we going to go into complete bondage, or are we finally going to become the free people that our Creator intended us to be?
Citizens of Iraq, Afghanistan, and the regions of Pakistan where Obama’s drones are killing people are quite free to own weapons. Mention “registering your privately held machinegun” to an Iraqi about the family AK and they will laugh at you. They know the deal.
America’s entire armed forces have not been able to disarm shit, anywhere. In fact I’m hoping they’re too smart to even try. God help us if they ever did try, no matter what country they tried to disarm.
I think they would have their hands full disarming the American people, but it is step one the US does anywhere they invade in the world, and since they’re not doing so hot in their world wide empire, nor able to continually pay for their 800 something plus military bases around the world, and they have a vast profitable network of “security” and spying in place, then it’s time to target the US and its people.
I say it that way to differentiate between what we think of as the USA and our so called elected leaders, and what really is the government: the black op, heroin and other drug running, Iran/Contra bunch that has never really left government and controls the actual purse strings of the elected ones. They will demonize the gun owners the second a shot is fired in anger or defense of the 2nd, and it will be an uphill PR battle after that even if gun owners win eventually. To me, the profit motive in it is a show of control, and to man their huge and very profitable private prison network. Remember, the US has the largest per cap prison pop, but crime is going down. Enter the gun owner.

Once that first shot is fired, there’ll be an unleashing by true Patriots unlike this Country has ever seen, and it won’t stop until there are no more targets left. Mark my words. The “shots” were fired a long time ago and all we hear on the internet is verbal swagger, saber rattling, from the peanut gallery. If what I’m saying isn’t true, why don’t you be the “first” and go out and back up your statement with some proactive, “first shot” action?
What’s it going to take? An out right murder of a politician like Feenstein (by a gun toting patriot) or a swat team coming to Henry’s house (or YOUR house), live on the internet (to move the lethargic masses)?
It’s called “Incremental Persuasion” and those controlling and manipulating behind the scenes have mastered it. That is why they won’t provide you with your “first shot” scenario, at least to wake the sleeping masses. THEY control the airwaves. Did I say that? No, you did. You might want to think before you make (up) your assumptions. That’s the problem when people can’t contain their emotions, they get overshadowed and then they start making things up.
I suggest you re-read what I wrote, think about it for a few days. When it sinks in and you get it, then comment.
