WATERTOWN, Wis. (AP) — A Canadian Pacific Railway train carrying crude oil derailed Sunday and prompted some evacuations in Wisconsin, the second day in a row a freight train derailed in the state.

The eastbound CP train derailed about 2 p.m. in Watertown, in the southeastern part of the state. The railroad said at least 10 cars derailed, and some were leaking.

No fires or injuries were reported. CP was sending teams to the site.

“CP takes this incident extremely seriously,” the railroad said in a news release. The company did not say how much oil spilled.

Federal investigators and hazardous material specialists are on their way to the scene, the Federal Railroad Administration said in a tweet.

Residents of about 35 homes were asked to evacuate around 4 p.m., said Donna Haugom, director of the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management.

On Saturday, a freight train derailed near Alma in western Wisconsin, spilling thousands of gallons of ethanol. BNSF Railway said crews continued Sunday to transfer ethanol from the derailed cars and get the cars back on the tracks.

The BNSF train derailed at 8:45 a.m. Saturday about two miles north of Alma, a town along the Mississippi River. Some of the 25 derailed cars were empty auto racks and tanker cars.

BNSF said railroad crews stopped the leaks from five tanker cars and placed containment booms along the shoreline. One tanker released an estimated 18,000 gallons of ethanol, and the other four released an estimated 5 to 500 gallons each.

No one was hurt. BNSF said it expects the tracks to return to service Monday morning.

  1. “… the second day in a row a freight train derailed in the state.”

Cheesehead engineers, perchance? (LOL… just kidding, Millard) 😉

Hope this isn’t a revival of the train crash ‘epidemic’.

    1. Wisconsin has seen enough environmental disasters over my lifetime and it’s ongoing. From a Mega Rich local asshole dumping caustic chemicals in the Chippewa River from a stream on his private property to save a few bucks on the disposal fee, to the DNR, turning a “blind Eye” to rampant uncontrolled runoff of Round Up and every other damned poison they can get away with.

Let me give you a clue. You know them beautiful, corporate fields of corn or beans you see, with nary a weed, well, that field has been triple dosed if not more. Keep eatin’ your poison, I’ll grow or order organic at this point. The price is way worth it.

        1. Well, not to get technical or anything Paul, but I like about anything fried in cast iron using bacon fat. I throw a little oil in with it and it works great for browning about anything.

I can’t decide. What’s better? Bacon, sausage patties, or sausage links or is ham better? Canadian bacon? With or without syrup? French toast or eggs? Sunnyside up, easy-over, poached on toast? I’m just curious and now, maybe little hungry! LOL Hashbrowns on the side, with toast!

          1. aw man! we like the same things. I’ve been known to fry burger in bacon grease. yum!! Like hot sausage, hickory smoked ham, old fashion round waffles with the little holes to hold lots of butter, eggs over easy, and hash browns fried crispy in bacon grease. Maybe a little saw mill gravy on the hash browns. Slurp, slurp. 😆

          2. Thank you mary, my Grandma Lucia introduced me to popcorn in bacon fat back in the sixties. I had long since forgot!

  2. To all you swine lovers, make sure you stay out of our prison system as they have halted the serving of products made from ” the other white meat”.
