3 dead in Elkhart supermarket shooting

ELKHART, Ind. (January 16th, 2014) – Three people are dead after a supermarket shooting in Elkhart.

The shooting occurred just after 10 p.m. Wednesday night at the Martin’s Supermarket on East Bristol St.

Police responded to a call regarding a man with a gun in the store.  

When they arrived on scene, the suspect pointed the gun at the officers.

Police, then shot and killed the suspect, a white male from the Elkhart area.

Police found a large caliber, semi-automatic handgun and a large knife near the man.

Officers also found two other people dead inside the store.

One victim was a woman who worked at Martin’s in her late teens, early twenties.

The other victim was a woman in her 40′s who had been shopping at the store.

Police are not sure which woman was shot first, and they were found several aisles away from one another.

The shooting is still under investigation, and police are interviewing witnesses and looking over the store’s surveillance video.
