I used to make 16 grand a week”

I hear this comment made as I’m measuring out counter tops doing a little side work on a Thursday afternoon. “We used to run four man crews; I was paying my guys 18 [dollars an hour] to frame these houses man.” This 50-year-old man, who we will name Bob, was once a contractor with a pretty lucrative income doing residential construction, framing new houses in the South Eastern America area. ”When the illegals hit here, developers stopped calling. I was okay. I had a little put back. It was the fact of letting my guys go.” Continue reading “Trumps failed his Base: Impending collapse of the Southern Border”

In courts across the country, EFF has been arguing that the police cannot constitutionally require you to unlock your phone or give them your password, and today the Indiana Supreme Court issued a strong opinion agreeing with us. In the case, Seo v. State, the court found that the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination protected a woman against unlocking her phone because complying with the order was a form of “testimony” under the Fifth Amendment. Indiana joins Pennsylvania, which ruled strongly in favor of the Fifth Amendment privilege in a compelled decryption case last year. “There will never be an ‘Autonomous Zone’ in Washington, DC, as long as I’m your President. If they try they will be met with serious force!” Trump tweeted on Tuesday, after a large crowd of masked protesters tried setting up barricades in Lafayette Park. “What’s been most striking to me is just how one-sided the rules are when Americans take on their own government…. It has been dismaying to learn the extent to which rules and laws shield the government from accountability for its abuses—or even lawbreaking…. It’s been a long and frightening lesson…. The rules seem rigged to protect government lawlessness, and the playing field is uneven. Too many processes favor the government. The deck is still stacked.” —  Journalist Sharyl Attkisson
