The Icelandic Met Office says a small subglacial eruption started today beneath the Dyngjujokull outlet glacier, near the Bardarbunga caldera. Scientists aboard a surveillance airplane above the glacier see no signs of an eruption yet. All flight traffic has however been banned near the volcano.

Kristin Jonsdottir, geophysicist at the Icelandic Met Office says that this morning, increased seismic activity and increased tremor was observed around the Bardarbunga caldera, especially in a 25 km. long dyke intrusion north and east of the caldera, near the edge of the Dyngjujokull outlet glacier.

SANTA FE (KRQE) – UNM Hospital has put a patient in isolation and the New Mexico Department of Health is calling in the Centers of Disease Control to conduct tests on that patient to make sure she does not have the Ebola virus.

Under the category of “I told you so”, a political contact, Jatto Abdulqudir, of who I dubbed Patient Zero, Patrick Sawyer, has died. I had previously expressed the fear that Sawyer’s boarding of two airplanes with multiple connecting flights raised the likelihood that hundreds of thousands would be exposed on the same day to the Ebola virus (www.twtitter.com/hniman).

This one fact represents an emerging picture which serves to demonstrate that the Ebola containment efforts are failing miserably and we are in the beginning of an emerging pandemic. How in the world is it possible that more than 170 health workers have been infected by the Ebola virus?  That is the one question about Ebola that nobody can seem to answer.  The World Health Organization is reporting this as a fact, but no explanation is given as to why this is happening.  We are just assured that Ebola “is not airborne” and that getting infected “requires close contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person”.  If this is true, then how have more than 170 health workers caught the disease?  These workers are dressed head to toe in suits that are specifically designed to prevent the spread of the virus.  So how is this happening?  I could understand a handful of “mistakes” by health workers, but this is unlike anything that we have ever seen in the history of infectious diseases.  These health workers take extraordinary precautions to keep from getting the virus.  If it is spreading so easily to them, what chance is the general population going to have?   Continue reading “The One Question About Ebola That Nobody Can Seem To Answer”

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of actor/comedian Robin Williams in Tiburon, Calif., north of San Francisco.
