I personally think this is not even close to over. Sure, the actual firearms are coming down in price, but good luck with getting ammo. As an example, I was getting 7.62x39mm for 3 dollars a 20 round box before this crap started. Now, that same box is about 10 bucks per box. I was getting 7.62x54r Bulgarian for 140 bucks per 880 round case and now 440 rounds cost about that much, doubled in price. I’ve even seen the Russian stuff going for $459 per 440 round can. As for .22lr, good freakin luck. I was getting 525 round boxes for $14.95 which now I cannot even find, but I can get 50 round boxes for almost $20 per box. I was getting CCI 100 round boxes for 6 bucks which are now going for over 30 bucks, even if you can find them anymore, 5 times increase!!!
Sorry, this crap is reminding me of how we got indoctrinated into accepting 3 dollar per gallon gas. The days of cheap ammo may never return because so many people are completely spooked by the current situation in this country and are buying whatever they can get. All the late comers are snatching it up and paying through the nose. I sure hope it calms down soon, but I know better than to hold my breath.
I happened to be at the county range yesterday and there were at least five Oregon State Police vehicles there and an unknown number of cops firing away like there was no tomorrow. I heard thousands or rounds fired over a couple of hours, so there is obviously no “training ammo shortage” for them. As for us mundanes, I have yet to see a single box of ammo on a store shelf. Zip. Nada.
It WON’T be over! ATK/Speer/CCI is stockpiling the hell out of the ammo & components in Washington State, along the Washington/Idaho border in shipping containers placed in grain fields. One Speer/CCI high level leaked to a acquaintance that the temp stow for .22 rimfire is stacked to the ceiling & he’s looking for more space to store. The .22 rimfire line was started running 24/7-3 shifts one week prior to the Sandy Hook incident. That’s just one ammo company. Even stranger, Sierra Bullets is exporting target .224 & .308 cal bullets overseas. There is no problem getting ADI match ammo loaded with 168gr Sierra match .308 at $30/20box here in U.S..Hodgden Powder is a joke with their canned responses.
I’ve watched these “gun writers” bullsh!t their readers with excuses & recommendations that the ammo/component shortage will be over soon. Their words are as useful as a pinch of sh!t in a snoose can. I’ve concluded they are nothing more than agents of disinformation.
If my words piss people off, then good. Get off the chair, go out & start looking. Ask questions & hold the ammo manufacturers accountable. Start calling these outfit’s bullsh!t & let them know we know they are LIARS & FRAUDS! They’re getting tax breaks & zoning waivers on your nickle. Breaks that small businesses only dream of.
Don’t bet you & yours lives on what some gun writer or ammo manufacturer says.
Still having trouble finding ammo reliably here in the Midwest, although it does seem to be a little better lately. I’m only buying for the range now as I’ve got a safe overflowing with mags and ammo, so it doesn’t affect me too much.
All rifles are abundant and sanely priced again, and it looks like they went overboard with ordering magazines because the shelves are overflowing with them now.
Between the gun shows and the firing range sales, I haven’t had much of a problem.
Except with the prices.
