The IRS says the agency’s commissioner won’t appear at a House hearing on Tuesday examining whether he deserves to be impeached.
A statement by the IRS on Monday says that John Koskinen has not had time to prepare for the House Judiciary Committee hearing because of recent travel and because he must also get ready for a second, unrelated hearing.
The agency says Koskinen will provide the committee a written statement.
Some Republicans have been pushing for Koskinen’s removal because they say he has prevented congressional investigators from gathering evidence about how the IRS treated conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. The IRS says it has cooperated.
The Justice Department has found no evidence of criminal behavior by the IRS.
The election-year impeachment effort seems unlikely to succeed.

Let justice be done, though the heavens should fall {Fiat justitia ruat cœlum};
Ignorance of those things which one is bound to know excuses not {Ignorantia eorum quæ quis scire tenetur non excusat};
The law is so written {Ita lex scripta est};
Have you ever wondered why there is United States Code Title 26 and there is the Internal Revenue Code? The content is identical but they are different laws. Isn’t that redundant? USC Title 26 is clearly the law of the Federal Government. Why have a different named law with the same content. Why does the IRS ONLY refer to the Internal Revenue Code and not to Title 26 USC? Are we being coerced into following a private contract law? The IRS is not a government agency. It appears to be a collection agency of the Federal Reserve and the IMF. Curiouser and curiouser.
