Jon Corzine’s son dead in apparent suicide

Former NJ gov’s son dead in apparent suicideNew York Post – by Jeane MacIntosh

The son of former New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine killed himself in a Mexico City hotel, sources told The Post on Thursday.

Jeffrey Corzine, 31, was the youngest of Corzine’s three children with ex-wife and childhood sweetheart Joanne Corzine.

Sources said he had been depressed recently. The cause of death was not released.

His mom and other family members declined comment.

“Mr. Corzine is obviously devastated by this tragic loss,” said his spokesman, Steven Goldberg.

The younger Corzine had a history of substance-abuse problems and had been in and out of rehab, sources said.

But he had been living in California and working as a drug counselor, and had appeared to have turned his life around, one source said.

Both of his parents had recently told friends that their son was clean.

“By all accounts, he was doing well,” a source said.

Jeffrey is survived by siblings Jennifer and Josh.

He had been living in a sunny, $2.8 million beachfront home in Malibu that his mom — who is remarried — helped him buy, records show.

It is unclear when or why he went to Mexico, but a source said Corzine had seemed depressed and had been drinking.

Corzine was a troubled teen, according to sources close to the family, and his father sent him to Pomfret — a boarding school in Connecticut, in hopes of “giving him some direction.”

Despite a rocky relationship, Jeffrey and his father bonded after the elder Corzine’s near-fatal 2007 car crash — when the then-governor was badly injured in a speeding accident.

Jeffrey was a constant presence at his dad’s side during the pol’s 18-day stay at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

“After that, Jeff seemed to straighten up a lot and the two of them grew much closer,” said one source.

Jeffrey was an avid poker player, and in 2012 he beat out former Yahoo president Sue Decker for the title in billionaire Warren Buffett’s annual high-stakes poker tournament.

He was also an artist and aspiring photographer, setting up the Web site jeffreycorzine.com several years ago.

On his Facebook page is a 2011 photo of him with President Obama.

The death of his youngest son is the latest in a series of challenges for scandal-scarred Jon Corzine, who was ousted from Goldman Sachs in 1999 and is now being sued by regulators over the 2011 collapse of MF Global Holdings Ltd., the commodities broker he headed after leaving public office.

  1. I guess Jonny won’t be divulging any information about Forex or Libor doings while he is discussing the various crimes that were committed while striving to net the most profit for himself and his buddies before he left. I’m sure Jeffery can back me up on this and Jennifer and Josh will probably give their support as well. I wouldn’t mess with his buddies, you will likely commit suicide if you do.

  2. Its not much by a numbers game, but it IS a good start. let them all fall. just like they did to our financial sector in 2008. corzine makes a snake look strait by comparison.

  3. Hanging around in the devil’s lair will do wonders to the mind. Did screwing the little people finally get to you and your weak mind? No sorrow here. You people preyed on the too big to fail system, and still do to this day.

Riddle me this… Do any of you pieces of garbage care about all the lives of American Nationals that you put out on the street? Do you care about the American Nationals that are starving or living in tents or under cardboard?

You know and I know the answer is not just no, but hell no!

I don’t give a rats behind about your silver spooned raised brats that couldn’t get a job in the real world unless daddy gave them one. Cry me a river Corzine you POS, may you rot in hell.

  4. Too bad,kid seemed to have been doing better, addictions can be a tough thing, especially growing up in a spotlight.

  5. Oh come on! That’s bullshit. So his kid dies instead of him? I thought they were going to throw Jon out the window, but instead they just off his son? Why does he get special treatment? How hard is it to throw a banker out the window. All it takes these days is a little nudge.

I guess maybe he was too well known to be thrown out the window, so they just got rid of his son instead.

  6. “Jeffrey Corzine, 31, was the youngest of Corzine’s three children with ex-wife and childhood sweetheart Joanne Corzine.”

    Still two more for insurance.
