Murphy Administration: Your N.J. pumpkins are subject to sales tax!

Save Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. – Thousands of New Jerseyans will visit Garden State pumpkin patches this October to take home everyone’s favorite Halloween agricultural accent.

This week, the Murphy Administration went out of its way to remind residents that yes, like most things in this state, your pumpkins ARE subject to the sales tax.

Here’s what the Division of Taxation had to say via its Facebook page:

“Pumpkins used for decoration are subject to Sales Tax,” the Division wrote. “Pumpkins used for food or in food preparation are tax free.”

New Jersey’s state sales tax is 6.625%, down from 7% following the 2016 gas tax hike compromise struck between then-Governor Chris Christie and the Democrat legislature. Governor Murphy has agitated to raise it back to 7%.

In 2018, New Jersey farms cranked out 110,500 CWT (hundredweight) worth of pumpkins.

New Jersey is also consistently ranked as one of America’s most over-taxed states.

  1. What I don’t get about this is how will they know which pumpkins we purchased for eating and which for decoration. Do they just expect us to make a communistic confession: Yes sir, I will certainly eat my Jack-o’Lantern.

New Jersey can stuff it, and I don’t mean the pumpkin.

    Geez!!

    .

    1. The same exact way that Beto thinks American Nationals are going line up to hand in their AR15’s and AK47’s.

Murphy is an absolute moron, then again, NJ deserves what it gets.
