SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon senators have unanimously approved a bill outlawing so-called revenge porn.

The bill was crafted to shield jilted lovers from having intimate photos, shared consensually with a former partner, posted online without their permission. The pictures often include contact information and links to the victim’s social media profiles.

It was proposed at the request of Oregon’s attorney general. The Senate’s approval on Thursday sends it to the House.

The bill focuses on photos that have been uploaded with the specific intent to harass, humiliate or injure the victim. Lawmakers say the narrow scope protects free speech rights. The legislation would make a first offense a misdemeanor, and subsequent offenses would be felonies.

If the governor signs it, Oregon would the 16th state to make the practice illegal.

    So-called? Call a spade a spade.

This is a no-brainer. Should be illegal in EVERY state by now.
