SALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The IRS and FBI have partnered in a federal investigation of former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and his fiancée, Cylvia Hayes, sources confirmed to KOIN 6 News.
Oregon Chief Operating Officer Michael Jordan was questioned two weeks ago by representatives from the FBI and IRS, Jordan’s spokesman Matt Shelby confirmed.
Jordan was questioned at his home two weeks ago, Shelby said. The day after he was questioned, Kitzhaber resigned. Jordan was asked if he felt pressure to hire a man connected to the firm that employed Hayes — he said no. He was also asked if emails were being preserved — he answered, yes.
This news, first reported by the Oregonian, is the first confirmation of the IRS’ involvement in the ongoing Kitzhaber investigations. It is also the first confirmation that agents have begun questioning people connected to his office.
KOIN 6 News will have more information as the story develops.
