Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead of an apparent drug overdose at his Manhattan apartment, a law enforcement source told FoxNews.com.

The NYPD responded to the apartment in the West Village shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday morning, the source said.

“The Hunger Games” actor has amassed an impressive portfolio of roles going back to the early 1990s, when he first appeared on the hit, New York City-based show, “Law & Order.”

He has since gone on to appear in notable movies like “Scent of a Woman,” “Boogie Nights,” “The Big Lebowski,” “Almost Famous,” “Capote,” “Mission Impossible III,” and “Moneyball.”

Hoffman, 46, has been nominated for four Academy Awards, winning a single time for his portrayal of journalist Truman Capote, author of, “In Cold Blood.”

Hoffman was filming the third installment in the immensely popular Hunger Games trilogy, in which he plays the character Plutarch Heavensbee.

The Heavensbee character figured very prominently in the third “Hunger Games” book, entitled, “Mockingjay,” on which the third movie is based.

  1. WOW! There goes another movie series. First Paul Walker and now Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hollywood just can’t seem to get their films finished with all of their actors alive these days.

      1. Aw geeze Angel. Still love it kiddo geeze 😎 what can I say…. At least I am honest —- more than I can say for most people 😎

        1. Yea Angel, just because I still love that stuff doesn`t mean that I still use it by the way 😉 Just thought that I better say that little tidbit by the way 🙂

      1. I was merely going on what was in the above article, Angel. 🙂 Didn’t follow the link.

That being the case, what, exactly, constitutes a definite overdose, as opposed to an apparent one?

        1. The city medical examiner’s determination after he has concluded his tests (possibility of tainted drugs). The links I posted give more details. It is sad. He was clean for over 20 years (definitely when I worked with him). He fell off the wagon last year, due to prescription drugs, and went to rehab. He was also a neighbor. Nice, down to earth guy. Not pretentious in any way. To say I was shocked and saddened by the news would be an understatement. 🙁

          1. Sorry to hear that, Angel. Hard to tell who’s worth the air they’re breathing in Hollywood these days.

That’s it for me, guys. Heading to Long Beach to watch the game at a friend’s house.

Hoping like hell nothing happens, other than a good (likely fixed) game. I’ll check back in at half time.

      2. Guess he didn’t want to stay long enough to see how the Revolution pans out whether it be in the Hunger Games or real life.

  2. These celebutards live lifestyles of privilege and opportunity that most of us cannot wrap our brains around….I don’t begrudge them of that even though entertainers were considered 3rd class citizens not much more than a hundred years ago.
What pisses me off is that when one them takes all of that privilege and opportunity and does something stupid to make themselves dead and I am expected to feel bad about it?…I don’t think so.
He cured himself from being a dumb ass. Nice job.

  3. sorry to read about your death mr. 4. So far, so good.

Half-time show sucks, the commercials have mostly been REALLY creepy (is that garbage what sells products these days?), but so far, so good.

  5. This is BS !!!! IMOHO !! If I died of a heroin overdose I would be demonized damnit and nothing more at most. This guy dies of a supposed heroin over dose and evey one seems to be only thinking of how good of a actor he was dang it to put it nicely! Seems like he is getting idolized damn it 🙁 !! . This guy was no more than a rich junkie and nothing more, period
