  1. If one takes the book of Genesis as an accurate account, then one ought to consider that the entire planet is under the curse of sin, and not just us. So to use a bumper sticker: Shit happens.
    Bad things are going to happen to people who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In addition, we do have free will. Our Creator has given us the guidelines for how we are to get along with those around us (aka The Ten Commandments), but we have willing chosen to ignore them. Many of our misfortunes are a result of our own stupidity.

  2. I think Ephesians 6:11-13 explains it all pretty well. Also, Isaiah 45:7–“I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create evil. I the LORD do all these things.” So why did God create Satan and evil, and why does God let the dark “principalities” and “powers” “rule” the world? Just like when God created the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil–to test Adam and Eve and to test us all. Free will and all that. As with Joshua, who said, “choose whom ye will serve; as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord…”
