President Barack Obama is scheduled to return to Chicago on Wednesday afternoon for a pair of Democratic fundraisers.
The president is raising money for congressional Democrats as his party tries to retake the House in next year’s mid-term elections. Obama will be accompanied by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Rep. Steve Israel, D-N.Y., who chairs the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, according to an invitation obtained by the Tribune.
Michelle Obama attends fundraiser in Boston for Edward Markey
Michelle Obama swooped into Boston today for a fundraiser for US Representative Edward J. Markey that was expected to net the Democratic Senate candidate at least $600,000 for his battle against Republican Gabriel E. Gomez.
“The first lady is a symbol of our future,” Markey told reporters outside the fundraiser at the Taj Boston. “She inspires millions of Americans, millions of people around the world, on a daily basis. So it is a tremendous honor for me to have the first lady here in Boston today, and I think it’s really going to provide real energy and impetus to my campaign.”

Michelle Obama: ‘Keep Writing Those Checks. And If You Haven’t Maxed Out, Max Out!’
First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a message to Democrats supporting Massachusetts Senate candidate Ed Markey: “Keep writing those checks. And if you haven’t maxed out, max out!” She made the remarks at a Boston hotel earlier today.
Via the pool report:
The crux of her speech: exhorting the crowd and other Democrats in Massachusetts to not tune out, but stay focused on this special election and to elect Ed Markey, who, she said, will help keep moving the President’s agenda forward.
“My husband can’t do it alone,” Obama said. “He absolutely needs folks like Ed Markey in the Senate to make it happen. So here in the State of Massachusetts, we need you do everything you can over these next four weeks to get Ed Markey elected.”
“And it’s all on you,” Obama said. The crowd laughed.
“No one else can make this happen but you,” she said.
“Keep writing those checks. And if you haven’t maxed out, max out!” Obama said.
FLOTUS also noted the need for grassroots organizing.

Obama to Attend 3 Democratic Fundraisers
President Barack Obama will start the week by attending 3 Democratic fundraisers in New York City, according to the White House.
“In the afternoon, the President will travel to New York City. The departure from the South Lawn and the arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport will be open press,” the president’s schedule reads.
“While in New York City, the President will deliver remarks at two DNC events at private residences and a joint DCCC/DSCC event at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The DNC events are print pool for remarks only and the DCCC/DSCC event is pooled press.
“In the evening, the President will depart New York City en route Washington, DC. The departure from John F. Kennedy International Airport and the arrival on the South Lawn will be open press.
As the New York Post reported previously, one of the events tonight will be at the home of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. “He won a second term, but Barack Obama isn’t done fund-raising. The president will appear at a cozy reception for fewer than 65 guests with tickets priced at $32,400 per couple at the Manhattan home of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and his designer wife Georgina Chapman on May 13, Page Six has exclusively learned,” reports the Post.
“The invitation explains attendees get ‘a frank and intimate discussion with the president’ where they can ask questions, and afterward Obama will ‘say thank you to each guest and take a photo with them.’ A Weinstein-hosted fundraiser in August brought out Anne Hathaway, Aaron Sorkin and Anna Wintour.”
