the minions do not have to lift a finger to kill every one of us. all they have to do is push a button from their hidden bunker or release a vial of something.. this is the reason for them making underground cities. they intend to ride it out while everyone else fries and dies.. the minions are only there to distract everyone from taking out the ones pulling the strings, they are only a distraction..
If the government used these doomsday-type weapons the way you describe, they’d be using them on themselves. They’d be dealing a death-blow to the economy. Without a functioning economy, the government collapses.
Government employees, contractors, and suppliers are deeply embedded in the general population. They live in our cities and our neighborhoods. They shop in the same stores, go to the same movie theaters, and have kids enrolled in the same schools. The oligarchs and higher government officials have zero power without these cogs in their “big machine.” They won’t be nuking us or unleashing bioweapons anytime soon. (As for lethal dragonfly-sized drones, I’d be much more worried about a plain old bullet from a sniper.) That’s why they’re so desperate to disarm us.
I realize that the oligarchs who control the government DO live in a world separate from ours, so to speak. But that world disappears as soon as the SHTF. Their lifestyle requires that some semblance of the status quo be maintained. If they want to live out the remainder of their lives underground, then I suppose they could do so — at least until their servants turned on them, or the air filtration systems broke down, or there was a power loss, or a nasty virus…you get the idea.
