WOW: MILLIONS Of Crabs Wash Up On Newport Beach, Calif. Coastline

Liberty Fight – by Martin Hill

What the hell?! I don’t believe for a minute that this is from “el nino.” Looks more like a Fukushima radiation disaster of biblical proportions.

My wife and I went to Newport on Sunday with some family members and I shot this video. This is the most bizarre and horrible thing I’ve ever seen in Newport, and I’ve been going there since I was a kid. Corporate news reports acknowledge that such crabs are virtually unheard of for Newport in the first place, not having been seen there for decades. Some reports blame the bizarre ‘biblical proportion’ event on the warm water of El Nino, but the Orange County Register admits that experts aren’t really sure of the cause. There is a sea of dead red crabs blanketing the beach for MILES, as far as the eye can see! I think it probably has to do with the Fukushima disaster, as certain data indicates.

This video was taken on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

I did find ONE crab that was still alive on the dry sand, struggling and upside-down on its’ back, and I threw it back in the water.

Below the videos and photos of all the crabs is a video I took at Newport around 2008, so you can see what it typically looks like.

The Orange County Register admits that ‘experts’ don’t know what is causing the crab-fest:

With red crabs on beaches, how did they get there? How do you get rid of them? Can you eat them?

What are these things, and why are they here? The Pleuroncodes planipes, also known as pelagic red crabs or tuna crabs, are about 1 to 3 inches long, and typically live in Baja California. It’s not unprecedented for them to come up here, but other than a smaller number earlier this year on Balboa Island, it’s been decades since their last visit.

It’s too early to say what is causing this, but many other unusual creatures have turned up in Southern California over the past year, and climate scientists have pointed to warm water as a reason.

And, as an aside, here is a video with the story of how we met a very cute couple at Newport Beach on Sunday who were getting engaged right at that moment, a romantic moment on the beach at Corona Del Mar. I couldn’t resist but sing them this song. This is my first-ever youtube singing video. 🙂
