Arizona Mom, 92, Kills Son Over Nursing Home Plans: Authorities

Patch – by Daniel Hampton

FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ — When a 72-year-old Fountain Hills man tried to put his 92-year-old mother in an assisted living home, she pulled out a pistol hidden in her robe and shot him to death, authorities said. Now, she’s been charged with first-degree murder.

After learning of her son’s plans, Anna Mae Blessing hid a pair of handguns in her robe and confronted him in his bedroom at their home Monday, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. The home is located near North La Montana Drive and East El Lago Boulevard.

Blessing then pulled a gun on him and fired off multiple shots, striking him several times, authorities said.

“She then pointed the gun at her son’s girlfriend and the two struggled over the weapon when it was dislodged from her hand,” the sheriff’s office said.

Blessing pulled out the other gun and tried to point it at the girlfriend, who knocked it away. The girlfriend then contacted authorities who eventually took Blessing into custody.

“From my understanding, she had thought about it for a few days because there was a dispute regarding her son wanting to put her in an assisted living home,” Sgt. Bryant Vanejas told KPHO.

Blessing reportedly waited for deputies by taking a seat in a recliner and said something like ‘You took my life, so I’m taking yours,'” court documents alleged.

“It is always concerning when domestic issues escalate to violence or tragic outcomes,” Sheriff Penzone said in a release. “They are often isolated and neither predictable nor preventable.”

Blessing is charged with murder, aggravated assault with
a deadly weapon and kidnapping.

  1. She knew these places are run by those that don’t give a crap about people and care only about the thousands of dollars per month they rake in. Each time her local radio station played the advertisement, “A place for Mom,” she rightfully bitched at that cheery soothing voice encouraging her children to put Mom away to die.
Old sonny and his girlfriend, girlfriend, c’mon, the guys 72, this is children’s ways, should have checked themselves into assisted living and left Mom alone to live and die on her own terms in her own home.

    1. I’m with you, Katie. You bear the child, nurse him, feed him, change his diapers, teach him how to be a decent human being, and then he wants to stuff you in a human warehouse to make his own life easier? Her elder years may not be convenient, but how many years did she devote to her children? (her entire life, possibly?)

Shoot the ungrateful bastard once for me, Mom.

  2. she will still die under ‘assisted care’. no change in the outcome. except her son wont come and visit every 6 months,

    1. She’ll probably get life or six months, whichever comes first.
      Don’t f#@k with old people.

      1. thats right , and the older I get .. the more i understand this sentiment ..

Im at the dont F#@k with me age already

    1. Better late than never. She brought him into the world, she took him out.
      Don’t f#@k with old people.

  3. Ghetto grandma stretches out son, wonder if she rifled his pockets after she dropped him? LMAO

Dropped being the key word here. She dropped him twice, at birth, and in death….

  4. I can only hope that if I ever get possessed by some demon that tries to pull that on my own mother she shoots me dead where I stand. That SOB deserved to die for what he was trying to do! It shows just how EVIL this world is when supposed CHILDREN turn on their parents like this and try to shovel them off to die in a “nursing home!”

She better change her will to, leave the land and everything to someone else so the “girlfriend” cant make a claim.

  5. Even if my late mother-in-law (she died last year) wanted to go to a nursing home, we would not have put her in one. I’ve worked in nursing homes as a nurse aide and while I thought the aides and nurses did a good job caring for these folks, the fact is nursing homes are more like waiting-to-die of loneliness homes, where half the “residents” cry and shout and act crazy most of the time. In other words, looney bins… The only reason the son wanted to put her in the home was because he didn’t want to take care of her, and the only reason she killed him was because she was too unstable even for a nursing home–what he should have done was hire a home health aide (I’ve done that as well) and saved himself some money…nursing homes are NOT worth the money you pay! It’ll be interesting to see how long she survives jail..
