Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) introduced “H.R. 1384: To establish an improved Medicare for All national health insurance program” on Wednesday, holding a rally on Capitol Hill with some of the bill’s 106 other co-sponsors.

As Breitbart News noted earlier this week, the bill would eliminate private health insurance — including Obamacare policies sold on state and federal exchanges — within two years and move everyone in the U.S. to a government insurance plan.
Like the “Green New Deal” introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other Democrats earlier this month, the “Medicare for All” bill includes no provision for funding, though a similar bill by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) would cost an estimated $32 trillion over ten years.
The text of the legislation was not immediately available, but a detailed descriptionprovided by supporters of the bill notes that it prohibits private insurance, including employer-provided insurance. It also eliminates restrictions on “reproductive health,” i.e. abortion.
Another summary claims that Medicare for All would make healthcare more efficient by “remov[ing] the profit motive” and that “Medicare for All would simplify the healthcare system by moving to a single-payer model.”
Supporters, including Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), called the bill an expression of their belief that healthcare is a “right.”
Media coverage of the rollout was swamped by coverage of the Michael Cohen hearings at the House Oversight Committee, which were happening at the same time as the rollout of the bill, but it is sure to receive more attention.
Several Democratic presidential candidates have already committed to the idea of “Medicare for All,” in principle.

Oh, and that “employer provided health insurance” to be “eliminated” also includes govt. handout TriCare, which goes to military folks and survivors and children–when many folks join the military for basically two reasons–free college and free healthcare? And I suppose members of Congress will also “lose” their “employer provided health insurance” as well… Like Mark said that Koyote says, who writes this sh*t?
And speaking of Medicare…virtually NOTHING in Medicare is free…one, they only cover “free” hospital costs THAT MEDICARE ALLOWS in a day and age when most “hospital” care is OUTPATIENT, which with Part B you MUST pay for (and Part B goes UP every year!), but again, only what Medicare ALLOWS, and only 80 percent of what Medicare ALLOWS! Which is why most Part B users ALSO PAY for what’s called “Medi-gap” to PAY for the 20 percent “gap” with what Medicare ALLOWS, and most plans mean you still have to PAY deductibles and co-pays (Plan N, A, and others), or you can PAY MORE to have these covered (PLAN F)…and, of course, all of these “Medi-gap plans” also go UP in cost every year! Or you can get “Medicare Advantage” but only if you live in big cities and only if your doctor is in a “network.”
Both my husband and daughter (and I think daughter-in-law as well, but likely not my son) have employer provided health insurance, and I’m pretty sure they’d like to keep it that way.
Yep, the “Democrats” introduce this crap, but we all here know the Re-thugs just love it as well…after all, they’ll still get TOTALLY FREE HEALTH CARE REGARDLESS, even though THEY CAN AFFORD THE BEST PRIVATE HEALTHCARE THAT EXISTS–ON THE TAXPAYER’S DIME!
“H.R. 1384: To establish an improved Medicare for All national health insurance program”
Improved?!
The fascists want to forfeit my right to healthcare of my choice for forced [crap] healthcare.
Those morons can’t destroy this nation fast enough for their appeasement.
“The fascists want to forfeit my right to healthcare of my choice for forced [crap] healthcare.”
Hate to be the one to break the news… but it’s all DEATHcare.
Be your own best doctor. I have been for years, and I’ve never been healthier.
Sad to see so-called “Americans” gleefully begging for their chains. They dance around happily, telling us how wonderful slavery is and how the chains are not really that heavy. They are going to get what they wish for, good and hard. The huge problem is; they are going to drag the rest of us down into their hell with them.
