Guns Save Lives – by Dan Cannon
A burglary suspect found himself in the hospital and then jail after choosing the wrong Baton Rouge, Louisiana home to break into earlier this week.
The owner of the home that Bem Sampson, age 19, allegedly broke into was out of town. However, the home was not unprotected.
The father of the woman who owned the home just happened to be driving by to check on the home when he noticed something was amiss.
The man, who was armed with his .357 magnum revolver, got out of his vehicle and entered the home to investigate. Once inside, he came face to face Sampson and brief struggle ensued.
During the altercation, Sampson was shot once in the arm by the father. He managed to flee the scene, but police quickly took him into custody nearby. He faces charges of burglary and battery.
The father defended his actions. According to WBRZ, “It had to be me or him. So, it had to be him instead of me. I’m not going to get myself hurt in no kind of way.”
Police say they are still investigating whether or not the father will face charges, however, barring any drastic changes to the facts as reported, we have to assume this is a clear cut case of self defense.
This is the 26th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Louisiana and the 1,254th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.

Good for you. If the cops press charges I’ll come down to Florida myself to protest in your favor.
Down here in Louisiana we shoot the bad guys and avoid calling the cops.
adaboy!! we don’t need non stinkin cops. They just get in the way.
too bad he only got him in the arm.
yup I always aim for body mas. Not a very good shot. Besides i don’t like to waste ammo.
Amen Brother. The chest is a lot easier to hit than arms, legs and heads. Two to the chest usually does it any way. 😉
Because of where it happened my first thought was “Bulldog?”. But then I thought, naw
, couldn’t have been, the guy walked away.
Amen Redhorse! Plus .357??? No way .45 if it is my carry weapon.
The story would have been
Robber found dead of two ten round mags. They are still trying to identify from dental records. 😉
ya know Bulldog. I was thinking along those same lines.
