Green Bay Press Gazette – by Trent Tetzlaff

STURGEON BAY – Seven people had to be rescued from an ice shanty in Door County Tuesday.

According to the United States Coast Guard, the group had been fishing about one mile northeast of Snake Island before they decided to head back and began to have issues with their UTV.

The coast guard said at the time of the incident the temperature was listed as 4 below with a wind chill of 30 below.

According to the press release, the coast guard and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources used airboats to rescue the individuals and take them back to shore.

None of the individuals in the ice shanty or on the rescue crews were injured in the process of the rescue, the coast guard said.

The coast guard said they recommend individuals to remain off the ice until temperatures become safer.
