Spain: Pupils kills teacher with crossbow

Descrier

A boy armed with a crossbow and a knife has killed a teacher at a school in Barcelona, Spain.

At least four other people, two teachers and two students, were injured in the attack, at the Instituto Joan Fuster.

The boy is reported to have arrived late for school at 09:15 local time (10:15 BST), and shot his crossbow at the face of a female teacher that opened the door for him. Dressed in camouflage, the boy then proceeded to fire his crossbow at the teacher’s daughter, who was in the class, as well as others nearby.

Hearing the screams, a male teacher rushed to aid of the first, and was killed while protecting her from further injury.

In a statement on the school’s website, head teacher Dolors Perramon said:

“It is with great sorrow that we inform you that at 10am this morning something very serious occurred that resulted in the death of a teacher. Two teachers and two students were also wounded, but they are now safe and being treated for their injuries”.

Under Spanish law, the age of criminal responsibility is 14, and so the boy may not face criminal charges for his actions.

The school closed on Monday in tribute to the teacher that was killed and has cancelled classes for Tuesday, but said that pupils would attend school for counselling.
