A gas station store owner in Florida has been charged with murder after shooting a man in the arm who tried to steal $36 worth of beer.
Mehedeun Hasan, 22, was charged with second-degree murder on Tuesday after Ronnie Dofoe Jr. succumbed to his wounds over the weekend.
Polk County Police said Defoe walked into a Shell gas station last Tuesday and brazenly stole three 18-packs of Natural Ice beer, according to WFTV 9.
Surveillance footage of the incident shows Hasan, who co-owns the store with his father, retrieve his 9 mm handgun in back of the store after realizing that he’s just been robbed.
Security cameras show Defoe, 43, calmly putting the beer inside his white sedan before getting into the car and starting the engine.
As Hasan makes his way outside, he stumbles and drops the weapon before finally catching up to Defoe in the front parking lot pointing the gun directly at him.
According to WFTV, the 43-year-old was shot in the arm and the chest as he was backing up his car to leave the gas station.
He drove about a mile away before crashing, said police.
Defoe was taken to a nearby hospital and died on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
Hasan, who has no prior arrest record, was originally charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted second-degree murder.
Those charges were upgraded on Tuesday shortly following Defoe’s death.
Hasan is currently being held at the Polk County Jail without bond.
Well Hasan is going to fry because he wasn’t aware of the law before he opened fire, and if he had half a brain in his head, he would have shot the tires instead of the driver.

The supreme court has ruled that you cannot use deadly force unless it’s reasonable to assume that you’re in imminent danger of death or grievous bodily harm.
That means can’t shoot someone who’s running away, stealing your beer, or knocked up your daughter. Just as the cops always do, you have to be able to sit on a witness stand and convince a jury that you were in a situation where it was reasonable to assume you were in fear for your life.
