Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping offered a rousing defense of globalism and suggested “the evolution of global governance system will have a profound impact on the development of all countries” during Wednesday’s opening of the BRICS summit in South Africa.
BRICS is a global trade and diplomatic bloc consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which meets semi-regularly for a summit on how to enhance the relationship linking the five countries, particularly regarding economic development. Xi Jinping, as the head of the healthiest economy in the group, spoke on Friday and asserted that “a global perspective” that rejects “unilateralism and protectionism,” an apparent swipe at the economic policies of American President Donald Trump. Toronto city council is taking some heavy and decisive steps to address gun violence city-wide in the wake of a mass shooting on the Danforth Sunday night.
One of these steps involves asking the federal government to ban handgun sales in Toronto. Another will see council request Ontario ban the sale of ammunition locally.
Councillors voted 41-4 in favour of these specific measures during a marathon meeting at City Hall on Tuesday evening, but the marquee agenda item they fell under — a set of proposals called “Immediate Steps to Address Gun Violence” — carried unanimously with a vote of 45-0. In its settlement with Cody Wilson’s Defense Distributed the government admitted that semi-automatic firearms below .50 caliber are not weapons of war.
On July 10, 2018, Breitbart News reported that the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) brought a suit against the State Department on Wilson’s behalf. The suit was filed in 2015 and was the result of State Department action to force Wilson to quit sharing 3-D gun files online.

More than 90 percent of establishment media coverage is hostile towards President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, says a report by the Media Research Center.
“The negative tone is a consequence of journalists’ decision to frame nearly all of their coverage around the plight of those adversely affected by the administration’s enforcement program, rather than those harmed by illegal immigration or those who support enforcing existing law,” MRC said. The United States Army is preparing for decades of hybrid wars across multiple domains – space, cyberspace, air, land, and, maritime. Back in October, we examined the Army’s latest Training and Doctrine Command report, which highlights how the next round of hybrid wars could begin somewhere around 2025 and last through 2040.
Currently, the Army is in a transitional period [quiet period] before the next round of wars start. President Trump has infused the Pentagon with more than $700 billion this fiscal year, in the attempt to plug significant gaps and expand emerging technologies. For instance, the Army has made it clear that it will replace its three decades old M249 light machine gun and the Colt M4 Modular Weapon System Carbine, with a lightweight and higher chamber pressure assault rifle. The Trump administration is planning to announce later today billions of dollars in aid to farmers hurt by tariffs, reports Politico.

Now’s the time to catch Mars in the night sky.
Next week, the red planet is making its closest approach to Earth in 15 years.
The two planets will be just 35.8 million miles (57.6 million kilometers) apart next Tuesday. And on Friday, Mars will be in opposition. That means Mars and the sun will be on exact opposite sides of Earth. That same day, parts of the world will see a total lunar eclipse. Chicago mayoral candidate Willie Wilson walked into a South Side church on Sunday flanked by Illinois governor Bruce Rauner and handed out $200,000 in checks and cash to around 2,000 churchgoers, or $100 each, reports the Chicago Sun Times.
Wilson, a millionaire businessman and Rauner who is up for reelection, made it rain at the Covenant Missionary Baptist Church through the Dr. Willie Wilson Foundation, a 501(c)(3). The Israeli Knesset has approved the ‘nation-state bill’ that promotes Jewish-only settlements, downgrades Arab language status and limits the right to self-determination to Jews. Arab MPs chided the law as racist.
The bill, which has the status of a basic law (approximately the same as a constitutional law in countries with a written constitution), was passed overnight to Thursday with 62 votes in favor and 55 against after hours of fierce argument and debate.
