NBC NewsDozens of drivers of tractor-trailers and pickup trucks expressed their frustration over trucking industry regulations and the government shutdown Friday in a way that was guaranteed to get attention: They slowed traffic on Washington’s Beltway in a rolling protest.
Those participating in the “Truckers Ride for the Constitution” rally had said they planned to circle the inner loop of the Capital Beltway “three lanes deep” Friday morning.
About 30 commercial vehicles and 15 pickup trucks, many sporting U.S. flags and “#T2SDA” placards, crossed over into Maryland on I-495 northbound at around 8 a.m., Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller said.
Nearly an hour later, four tractor-trailers began driving side-by-side and slowed traffic to 15 mph. State troopers stopped the trucks at mile marker 53 and warned them not to impede traffic, Geller says. They were not given tickets and were allowed to continue.
Around 10:15 a.m., about a dozen truckers returned to Virginia via the westbound lanes of the inner loop, but they were met with already congested traffic caused by heavy volume and weather conditions.
Geller says there have been no major incidents as a result of the convoys.
A Facebook page for the rally had more than 59,000 likes and about 3,000 RSVPs — a far cry from the number of actual participants seen Friday.
Organizers say the three-day rally was scheduled for a holiday weekend to reduce harm and to allow others to participate in their cause.
A Virginia State Police spokesperson says additional troopers will work through the weekend to respond to any incidents that may arise.
In 2007, a similar rally was held to protest illegal immigration and competition from Mexican truckers, U.S. News & World Report said. But it did not heavily affect commuters.

Ha! Ha! ha! ha! ha! What a joke!!! I knew from the beginning that this was a set-up of Obama’s. Now I see the “lesson” he wanted us to learn from this: “You may be mad as hell at the Government, but it’s better for you to NOT rebel. Just go along with us and everything will be fine.”

Maybe if these drivers would’ve let their wives and girlfriends drive the rigs, then something constructive would’ve taken place (like we were led to believe would happen). Never send a man (wimp) to do a woman’s job.
Don`t count these truckers out just yet Michael. Today is well on it way and there is still the weekend to go 🙂 . If there are truckers that couldn`t make it to this then I wish that they would just shut down for the weekend or longer and give some truck stop a few days of good business…….Yes this thing in DC is only just starting for this weekend I hope.

I couldn’t be more proud of the people that took the time to make this event a success even though they have had to fight lies from the media and false threats from the Obama camp. These special guys and gals still have Saturday and Sunday to do their duty as United States citizens to remind the morons in office that they are not charged to rule the people but are charged to serve the people.
As for you and the rest of the low life’s and scum bags that are against this demonstration, you will soon find out what it will be like to go against causes such as this, as you will be the first to be body slammed to the pavement by the communists you obviously support. The rest of us truckers will be on the sidelines with the comforts of other patriots watching, as you will be squashed like a toilet bug.
