Edmonds homeowner shoots man trying to break into home

KCPQ TVQ13 Fox – by John White

EDMONDS – Thanksgiving morning was shattered for an Edmonds family early Thursday when an intruder tried to break into the family’s home.

Edmonds police said that around 3:15 a.m. a homeowner woke up to hear someone trying to break into the home in the 16400 block of 75th Ave West.

The homeowner, a 33 year-old woman, had armed herself as she heard the suspect repeatedly pounding on the front door, police said. As the homeowner came to the front door, the suspect, a 22 year-old man unknown to the residents, started to force his way inside the house.

The homeowner and suspect struggled at the front door, police said, and then the homeowner reportedly fired one shot, striking the suspect in the abdomen, police said.

Police officers arrived and took the suspect into custody; he was given first-aid and then transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police said that there were several people inside the home at the time of the incident: The husband and their children, ages 14, 10, 5, along with a 14 year-old friend of the eldest child. No one in the home was injured.

  1. “The homeowner and suspect struggled at the front door, police said, and then the homeowner reportedly fired one shot, striking the suspect in the abdomen, police said.”

Amazing what a single, well-placed round can do.

  2. “Police officers arrived and took the suspect into custody; he was given first-aid and then transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.”

    Ahhhh… the clean-up crew.

The victim was luckier to have survived THAT encounter…

  3. “Police said that there were several people inside the home at the time of the incident: The husband and their children, ages 14, 10, 5, along with a 14 year-old friend of the eldest child.”
Where was the husband? Did he sleep through the whole thing? Is he paralyzed?

          1. Hey Angel. 🙂

I’m staying out in Riverside with friends this weekend. They’re out for the day, and I have to run out to get some lunch. Back in a bit…

  4. Ok. So my first observation of the facts given, and, my comment are this: Apparently the wife is a lighter sleeper than the man of the house who didn’t wake up with all of the pounding down the door. If someone doesn’t have a key and is pounding on the door they are trying to break something to get in. That’s a pretty loud noise. My guess is that ‘hubby’ is out of it. So she hears the pounding on the door, arms herself and goes down to do what? Then the story says that As the ‘homeowner” (ha) came to the front door. Remember this-came to the front door. Then it says “started to force his way into the house”? This is not speaking about him pounding on the door or kicking it repeatedly to to break it down to get entrance. This is clearly describing him haven ‘broken open the door’ to gain entrance so he could do what ever he wanted which would have been when he STARTED. That sentence is subversive. Anyway. So, I you are this woman who arms herself first! Why would anyone who arms themself against whatever is behind that door run up to the door? A firearm can shoot further than 2 feet. This is stupid. Common sense tells me that there ain’t gonna be no strugglin goen on here. I’m not going to run up to a door that sounds like somebodies trying to break it down. Would you? Maybe to open it to see who’s there? Not if I feel compelled to arm myself. What ever I had in my hands once I knew it wasn’t my x drunk uncle sam, (ha) I’d empty my gun. Not only one shot. Afterall, the blue lodge boys always empty their guns, necessary or not. Heck for them they rarely get to shoot at live targets. So if this is a true story, and it happened as stated, she was really dumb. Point is, stay back and be ready to fire. Anyone as bold and brash to break down your door while you are at home is probably comfortable to do anything to you or and your family. We should only hire intelligent novelist writers who know the english language, the definition of words etc. People who can describe with accuracy, what happened and when and how. So much has been watered down as to police, etc. procedure. As Mark has said over and over, upon the taking or giving of any ‘report’ , it’s, who what when and how, what were you doing, what were they doing’. Such communication protocols are mandatory so that every one is on the same page. The way this is story is described leaves too many holes. Be well always, Henry and Wife.
