I don’t want to offend anyone’s religious beliefs, but even us atheists are exposed to religiosity on a regular basis, and since we are living in a Christian society, I feel entitled to express an opinion on the matter.
To wit: You’re constantly hearing the anti-war crowd asking “who would Christ bomb?” when they’re trying to appeal to Christians with their message, so I’d like to take these questions a bit further:
How deep was Christ’s collection plate? How much real estate did he own (in this world)?
If I remember right, he gave his sermons on the sides of hills, in the woods, and didn’t have a dime to his name. I do believe that “you cannot serve God and mammon both”, so I would be suspicious of any wealthy church, or any priest living a bit too high on the hog. As I understand the Bible (and I have read it), there’s a real conflict between God’s word and worldly wealth which should really raise red flags amongst Christians. I think a priest should be poor, and content with his poverty, if he were truly devoted to doing God’s work.

Roger, as someone who is truly believing in Christ–not religion, but Christ–I totally agree with you, even if you are an atheist. Because of the 501-C3 thing, I have stopped going to church on a regular basis. the true “Body of Christ” is not some danged building!
I have a strong belief in Christ, but going to a 501c3 church is a waste of my time…And JR is correct.
The problem is, most preachers/pastors dont even know the truth themselves..Even if they could talk about the truth, they wouldnt cause they dont know it. They are sheeple also.
Much of their problem is they do not understand the true meaning of Romans 13. Most pastors (I think, since I’ve heard so many say it) think that Romans 13 implies that taxes MUST be paid so therefore they MUST have 501-c3 churches. Romans 13 just might be the most misunderstood chapter in the entire Bible. the next time someone throws Romans 13 in your face, ask them this: “if Obama (or some “magistrate” to use Romans 13 language) ordered you to jump off a 1,000 foot cliff, would you do it?”
It’s not all that simple. If you don’t file a 501 C3 you don’t pay taxes; you often have no choice they shut you down plain and simple. Check on that. I don’t belong or favor any church only truth.
The answer is what the early churches did: they established “home churches” and more and more are cropping up…just like home schooling…
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: ALL of the mainline Christian denominational churches are corrupted, without exception.
“Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt me, ye hypocrites?
Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

Clearly Jesus states to give the government their due. And for any who would argue this point………
“And when they came to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
Peter saith unto him, of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free..
Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.” Matt. 17:24 – 27 KJV.
The reason I attend the church I do now is because it is NON 501(c)(3), and the pastor reads exclusively from the KJV, the only valid translation, and the only Bible that no royalties are collected on.
All other translations are corrupted –
