If terrorists were really serious

BATR, August 8, 2005

“Them against us”, is the battle cry.  Forget about a “global struggle against violent extremism,” it’s a war, so says President Bush.  Keep the pressure up and the fraud going.  Never let the debate discuss the merits of the strategy or the results of the policy.  Thinking can never be allowed to penetrate the decisions.  Attack any opposition to the course of escalation and permanent intervention.  Fight them “Over There”, so we can be safe at home!  Ever wonder why these terrorists keep building nail bombs while the great super power runs their search and destroy missions?

Even the most hardened hawk has to come down to reality at some point.  Soaring in the rarified air of delusion hardly provides the formula for victory.  The escalated and continuous hostilities in Iraq prove that occupation and nation building is a recipe for disaster.  Any sane observer must admit that the indigenous population sees the troops as invaders not liberators.  The inability for competing sects to share power should be apparent to even the causal onlooker.      Iraq is in the throngs of a civil war.  The notion that democracy is universal and will be successful whenever it becomes compulsory is absurd.  Iraq is confirming the axiom that U.S. occupation in hostile territory guarantees defeat when the locals become freedom fighters.

To illustrate this point, reexamine the discerning World Islamic Front Statement from 23 February 1998.

“First, for over seven years the United States has been occupying the lands of Islam in the holiest of places, the Arabian Peninsula, plundering its riches, dictating to its rulers, humiliating its people, terrorizing its neighbors, and turning its bases in the Peninsula into a spearhead through which to fight the neighboring Muslim peoples.

If some people have in the past argued about the fact of the occupation, all the people of the Peninsula have now acknowledged it. The best proof of this is the Americans’ continuing aggression against the Iraqi people using the Peninsula as a staging post, even though all its rulers are against their territories being used to that end, but they are helpless.

Second, despite the great devastation inflicted on the Iraqi people by the crusader-Zionist alliance, and despite the huge number of those killed, which has exceeded 1 million… despite all this, the Americans are once against trying to repeat the horrific massacres, as though they are not content with the protracted blockade imposed after the ferocious war or the fragmentation and devastation.
So here they come to annihilate what is left of this people and to humiliate their Muslim neighbors.

Third, if the Americans’ aims behind these wars are religious and economic, the aim is also to serve the Jews’ petty state and divert attention from its occupation of Jerusalem and murder of Muslims there. The best proof of this is their eagerness to destroy Iraq, the strongest neighboring Arab state, and their endeavor to fragment all the states of the region such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Sudan into paper statelets and through their disunion and weakness to guarantee Israel’s survival and the continuation of the brutal crusade occupation of the Peninsula”.

Then digest the Al-Qaeda announcement reported on the BBC-London – Sunday, 14 October, 2001, just after 911:

“The Al-Qaeda organization declares that Bush Senior, Bush Junior, Clinton, Blair and Sharon are the arch-criminals from among the Zionists and Crusaders who committed the most heinous actions and atrocities against the Muslim nation”.

Now ask yourself what gain does targeting innocent citizens for killing and maiming accomplish to advance the goals of those ‘violent extremists’?  If one is to believe the Bush rhetoric – they want to destroy our freedom – the U.S. doesn’t need any outside help to eradicate out Bill of Right protections.  The Patriot Act is a prime legacy of the War of Terror against America.  Conversely, how are the stated objectives of the World Islamic Front Statement achieved by destroying our freedoms?  Garrison occupation of the Middle East, waging a greater Zionist domination plan, and foreign control over the oil reserves do not cease by killing random civilians.  Are the terrorists that stupid or have the public been bamboozled into accepting a phantom threat as the excuse to surrender their way of life?

Consider the tactics of a serious foe.  The obligatory disclaimer that the following approach should not be construed as an endorsement or advocacy of the method.  It is strictly an illustration of a logical scheme that has existed from the dawn of history.  Citizens of good will oppose collateral damage among any and all factions.  However, fundamental conflict is the rule among competing cultures.

If terrorists were shrewd they would focus the aim of their destruction upon the originators and executioners of the policies that have created havoc in the Middle East.  If by their own announcement that: “Bush Senior, Bush Junior, Clinton, Blair and Sharon are the arch-criminals from among the Zionists and Crusaders”, why are the members of these families safe from assassination?  If homicide bombers are so plentiful and determined to practice their skills, all the world knows, that the most prevailing bodyguard security cannot protect everyone.  So why isn’t it standard practice to eliminate the leaders and their loved ones who formulate preempted strike aggression?

There certainly are not enough Secret Service agents or even armed troops in the military to provide continuous blanket protection for the initiators of the immoral preempted strike aggression policies.  So why are the collaborators immune to personal suffering?  They are left to plot the next escalation into Iran or Syria, while their extended families enjoyed the perks of a war regime.  How dumb are these terrorists?

Surely the malicious policy will continue even after scores of family funerals, but there would finally be some direct pain experienced by the arrogant perpetrators.  You don’t have to support, like or defend the Muslim culture to reverse our own disastrous foreign policy for that region.  It is in our own best self-interest to admit failure, understand the basic reasons for that malfunction and remove from influence proponents of national destruction.  If terrorism really is the problem or the threat, the focal point would not be intended for ordinary people.  Judge for yourself, who do you fear more, the subway bombers or the power brokers?

  1. “If terrorists were really serious” …. or if terrorists were even real

Excellent article, SARTRE. It’s too bad that Americans believe whatever they’re told rather than thinking these things through.
